Somehow managed to put about an egg cup of brake fluid in my 5.0ltr rover V8 TVR engine. I have not started or turned it over. Any techies out there to give me advice on what I now need to do.
Cheers

Drain it. Fill with oil and engine flush, run and drain.

Refill with the recommended oil.

That's a bit of a difficult problem, even a small amount of brake fluid reacts badly with engine oil and forms a thick mush.
I would drain just the oil and leave it draining overnight, add new oil and run it until it's hot, then change the oil again including filter.

Why did you have an egg cup full of brake fluid near an engine ? lol

And where exactly did you put it ?

Like a prat I have bought two 1ltr bottles that are same colour and size, one with oil the other with DOT4. Took off filler capand poured, realised straight away and had put in a cap full or so. Consensus seems to be drain, fill and redrain and change filter. Any alternative views - flushing etc? Any advice gratefully received

If it was really only a capfull..I woudlnt be overly worried.

If you are concerned, just run til warm, then perform an oil/filter change as normal.

Don't use engine flush, it'll do more harm than good!

If you by accident put the brake oil into the engine, I think you have flush it by immediate effect.

The most probably DOT4 being burnt in the combustion chamber is for rubber seal faulty, if this is the case you only need change the seal, start the engine for some period and there shouldn't be much DOT4 in the engine anymore.

Actually brake fluid bottle is nowhere close to the engine oil. smile

Further to my origional reply, I feel I must repeat that brake fluid reacts badly with engine oil, whatever you do, don't just ignore it or you'll have a wrecked engine ( I've seen it happen).

The brake fluid will not mix properly with the oil, but will form a thick emulsion with it that will set hard with heat.

Thanks all for your input - I will take the advice on the last post and not take a chance. Will drain and change filter asap. Will probably give the flushing a miss. Again thanks

Only if the engine has never been appart before and it is the crud in the galleries keeping the oil pressure up.

I believe it is a TVR. Might I be brash in expecting a fairly recent rebuild? wink

This is a rover v8 mind- you get crud in the galleries about 30 seconds after you start the damn things

its way they invariably need a top end rebuild after about 200 miles lol
