Can anybody help please.

I recently posted the problem I was having with my BMW as follows:

------------------------------
Its just had a major service and passed its MOT but its not running properly.

When travelling with revs around say 2000 and approach slowing traffic, you take your foot off the accelerator to decelerate but the revs stay at 2000.. and often I have to dip my clutch to get them to drop!

Its as though (and I know its not the case) the choke is on all the time.

I rang the local BMW garage to see if they would do a diagnostic check on it and they say it wouldn't show up on the diagnostic machine?? Is that the case?

-----------------
Two people came back to say virtually the same thing.. that it was idle control valve which needed cleaning. I had this done over the weekend but the problem is still the same.

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

Sounds very much like an air leak past the throttle body.
Check the main induction hoses for splits as you only need a small one to give the symptoms you described.
HTH.

Does the car have a fly by wire throttle? It might be just a sticky assembly on the throttle body. The pedal would return as normal but the sticky bit would errrm... stick until you moved it again by prodding the pedal. Just an idea

also if its fly-by-wire, maybe short on the throttle pedal, or problem with the input on the ECU.
