Hello,

looking for a place to stick an oil temp sensor and noticed this hex plug on the oil filter housing.

I'd rather not remove it to watch the oil puddle on the floor.

Can anyone one confirm or deny?

many tia.

Depends on the age of the block but the single piece rear main seal blocks (89 to 96) and some of the later two piece rear main seal blocks (87/88) have two tappings one for temp sensor and one for pressure sensor in that location. Not too sure about the 60's and 70's engines.

Hope that helps.

Try asking the question in the Ultima forum. I'm sure Ted won't mind a little cross posting. They know their Chevy's from their Zetecs.

Paul.

Thanks for that. I'm pretty sure its a one piece rear seal & 4 bolts mains (it was sold to me new as a high tin Nascar block 8 or so years ago). I take the oil pressure from the the port next to the disty. So I think perhaps I'll try putting a temp sensor in the filter head.

Cheers.

I put the oil temp sensor in a sandwich plate between the block and filter (for an oil cooler and accusump) on my Ultima..... Mine also has the thread you show, but I have no idea if you can use it for oil temp.
