Hi Steve- bit of a long shot as it’s been a while, but in the next couple of months I’m going on an almost identical search, at an identical life point, and have been looking at the same cars....
So if you’re still on PH- what’s the longer term verdict? Did you get the Mas? Did it leave you smiling?

So I have had two of these, perspective may be of use....
So I went from a modified 996TT to a Mass GT MC Shift (4.7)
Pros
- noise, oh the noise
- looks
- interior space, easily fits 4 adults
- quick enough
- gearbox gives an old fashioned thump, I like it (and drove it in manual mode all the time)
- an event to drive
- reliable
- positive reaction
- servicing not cheap but not crazy (and every two years), Carbon canisters every 4 years expensive though (think that’s what they are referred to)
- epic value for £30-£40k
Cons
- small boot (if you view it as a four seater, good for a 2 seater)
- expensive brakes, pads and semi consumable suspension parts (all very expensive)
- hard suspension, lack of ultimate grip (much better on PS4s than Pirelli)
- crap infotainment
- crap auto mode
- likes a drink
- battery drain can be an issue if no trickle charge / left for >2 weeks
- variator issues on certain model numbers (easy to check)
- alloys kerb very easily
Overall, loved it and glad I owned it...however, selling dealer had to spend £10K (after I bough it) to get it back to decent standard (brakes/suspension) so get inspected, even if from a decent dealer.
I then moved onto a 2012 Panamera Turbo S
Pros
- the speed, oh the speed (I mean sub 4 seconds no problem)
- amazing handling for its size, frankly ridiculous
- great PDK gearbox / manual mode good to
- decent space
- great ergonomics
- lovely efficient interior
- decent but not huge boot space
- driving modes make a real difference
- reliable so far (and I did get it inspected, almost perfect)
Cons
- it’s bloody huge
- only 4 seats
- engine lacks vocals
- likes a drink (similar to Masser)
- hesitant pull off in normal mode
- lacks looks, although I personally think it has real presence
Overall I really like it as an ownership proposition and it drives far better than the Masser, far more modern. Happy to have made the change, I had owned the Masser for 3 years though so was ready for a switch. I wouldn’t have owned it before the Masser though, needed to scratch that itch and so glad I did.
In summary
- Masser: heart purchase (but not a crazy one of you buy wisely)
- Porsche: head purchase (but not as dull as people would have you think, has really grown on me)
