My GranTurismo has never had any problems with its headlamps, nor has it had any issues with lighting at MoT testing time. However, I’m often flashed by oncoming drivers when driving at night, I’m guessing because I’m dazzling them with my (dipped) headlamps.

Compared with my daily driver, the lamps do seem to have a higher aim when I look at the illuminated area on the road ahead.

I am assuming, of course, that the MoT testers have assessed the headlamp aim properly when testing the car. Assuming they have, does anyone have experience of similar issues with GranTurismo headlamps?. Is it just that they are very bright (which they are) or perhaps I just need to ask the garage to double check them? The last MoT was done via the main dealer in Colchester as few weeks ago…

Any advice welcome!

Thank you.

As a quick test, park in front of a wall with your lights on and make a mark. Reverse back 3 meters and do the same.
Now get a non flashing vehicle (no pun) and park in the same place and do the same, inc reversing back.

If you see a difference between the two differences you get your answer.

  • you might be able to do it without making a mark, eg use a brick or another identifiable indicator

Many thanks for that tip, I’ll give it a go. Should reveal if there is/isn’t a problem fairly easily.

My GT lights are both level if that helps you.

All now sorted!

Had to take the car back to the MoT bay at the main dealer where they adjusted the headlight aim. Apparently, they were legal as they were, but at the top end of the legal range.

Job done FOC, which is pretty amazing. Does make me wonder if they had been properly checked when they did the MoT a month ago…

Good result. Regarding the MOT, who knows what happens

It’s worth a check on the rear springs, these settle over time on Maseratis (and others) and I suspect that’s what left your lights pointing upwards.

I hadn’t thought about the rear suspension - that’s a good point to consider. Fatties in the back - a good bit of lateral thinking!!

The car went from Colchester to Surrey and back over the Christmas weekend without angry/irritated headlight flashes from on-coming drivers, so at least I’m not upsetting other road users any more.
