Hi there - new to the forum.

My dad is currently looking into getting a new car. Somethting like an M5, HSV, or the like. (if any!!)

My question is:
Where can I find more information about these cars as both the UK and Aus sites aren't really a lot of use. Also any idea where I can find any pictures as well. Do any of the members have pictures of their cars?

Thanks in advance for your help

Try searching the net for old magazine reviews. I've definately read a few. I remember one M5 v HSV blat around the Anglesey circuit. IIRC the M5 won but not by much.

Cheers mate - he's really after something a bit different as he's had a string of bms and wants a change, but not sure whether or not its worth it...

I'd probably get the HSV just to be a bit different (and I don't like BMWs). I would be a bit concerned about the residuals though and the fact that they look like an Omega. But whatever floats yer boat... Does your dad need a big saloon or could he survive with a 2+2 GT?

Think he would manage with a smaller car as he can use other cars. BUT I think he wants to go for an everyday car that can be used for transporting people around and can be left parked (not like a porsche or anything). Practicality is not a major issue but 4 seats would be useful.

As I said before he can use bigger cars if he wants to carry people in comfort. This would mainly be for commuting to London from Sheffield once a fortnight and just blatting around in.

Cheers for the help so far pal

Thought about a Ferrari 456? Second hand of course but they're different, very fast, seat 4, comfortable on long runs. They're not silly money either. 65k for this one:

eg www.findit.co.uk/uk/cars/ferrari/245697.htm

OK so its a horrible interior but you get the idea

Winx, try www.hsvuk.com which is the official UK website. I bought a HSV GTS-R last year from them last year and have never regretted it. I tried all its so called rivals: i.e. M5, E55AMG, XJR, 3200GT etc and the GTS was the only one that I didn't want to get out of. In this weeks Autocar somewhere at the back in the classifieds theres a little piece on "what to buy for 50 grand" and the HSV is the new car choice. The engine choices are now 340 and 500BHP as the 12 "R" models with 410BHP have been sold.

Thanks for all the advice. He has driven most of those cars and has not really found exactly what he wants. A ferrari is not his kettle of chips really as he had a 355 but couldnt take it anywhere and found it drew too much attention. He is now thinking of just going for an M5 and adding a few bits to make it a tad different (not I hasten to add max powerish or anything!!

We shall see
Thanks for all your help

Just a thought Winx, but the guy who is supercharging the GTS to 500BHP is also running a supercharged 540i demo as well.

Mark at Linden Special Vehicles, I'll dig his number up at the weekend and post back. He does most of the servicing on the HSV's. Don't expect flash (i.e. BMW like) premises but he knows his stuff and seems an O.K guy.
