so when you going to let the rest of us have a play because as impressive as your dedication to getting into all the deep dark corners of the code for the assorted models are most of us really just want to change the startup logo which is supposed to be pretty idiot proof if you have the right software and a cable...

i have a load of notes i need to write up. which will show what hex byte that needs changing to do what part. as for heading into each deep dark corner i am just scratching the surface.

the super secret software i eluded to a number of posts back does not work well with the UK clusters and causes more issues than it fixes. i have spent the last few weeks putting my own cluster back right so it works correctly and i still have a fwew bits to fix.

so once i have fixed what i broke so others don't tread that path i will share.

So want to know if we can get a test vt cluster what you could do. Mph would be great on the trip. As would mpg not l/100kph.

might not need to waste money on a test VT cluster if we meet up at some point i can see if i can read from yours and work it from there.

aha so we're back to using the OSE Utility then as the main tool, fair enough I'll just crack on myself with that. I still reckon my efilive cable with a USB-serial cable will do the job with the cluster in the car. Just need to wait on the car battery recharging fully, was dead tonight. Will see how I get on tomorrow evening.

i can send you some pointers over cabling wiring and reading if you want to drop me an PM. i just hope you have good eyesite as all the number start to blur after a while.

fyi there is some good info on the LS1 GTO thread but warning there speadsheet is not 100% accurate for UK cars found this out the hard way..

yeah got the spreadsheet, only two things I am interested in looking at their stuff

1. backup table 9 (F2,57,1,9)
2. change startup logo, rev limits and shutdown text

read the current settings out your cluster first with this code.

F2,57,1,9 this reads out table 9 which is logos and red line light and gear change RPM and custom text etc

then copy it in to notepad and put the above settings in you want.

and turn the shift light code to 90 not 01 *taken taken me 3 weeks to sniff this)

if you copy and pate direct from the spreadsheet some items wont work.

also make sure you set cable type in OSE.. i.e adal and disable BCM chatter, it might not write first time but it will do it. you will need to cycle the cluster twice to pick all changes.

if you going with the HOLDEN startup logo. shutdown text will NOT work. shutdown text only works on HSV and CSV startup logos there linked. i have not worked out how to unlink these yet.

if you have a 04 CV8 like im reading (big boot) can you do me a cluster dump if i send you the codes, its not the whole cluster i just need certain tables.

added to say mode F2,70,28 is write F2,70,1 is read / return you will need to change the 1 to 28 to write the code back after editing.

if I get it working happy enough to send you a copy of the 10 tables, been doing bit more reading and saw your issues with the shift light/shutdown text. Wasn't actually that bothered about them but figured if they were available might as well change. Thanks for the heads up re the code change to 90. Think I'm going to order an arduino board in the morning as a backup in case the cable doesn't work.

thanks and good luck. there is an extra table i will want reads from that don't come under tables - 10 ill post the code when you up and working (its on a different laptop and im to lazy to turn it on this evening.... again)

No don't need your cluster any more I got my hands on a vz 6.0 cluster to work on.

The dump is what I do when I make a mistake on programming... Rule 1 always remember to take a backup rule 2 remember where you saved the backup rule 3 remember what it is you changed..
