whats the story with the 2005 cars?

a dealer told me the standard and VXR models are likely to have their specifications changed and this to be announced on the 6th of December??

thinking about a pre reg standard car, but its being hinted at a 6L engine and a bit more spec for next year -but at what cost?

to the non aware what does that mean in real terms?

whats a yz whats an LS1 or LS2??

I'm sure I won't be the last to let you know. But the YZ is the current model of Monaro/Commodore in Australia. Released only a few weeks ago. Go to www.holden.com.au to check out the new models.

The LS1 in layman terms is the 5.7L V8 engine that is in the current Monaro. The LS2 is the 6L variant that is currently being used in the HSV models, i.e VXR here in the UK.

I'm sure the other guys on this site will be able to fill you in with all the nitty gritty stuff.

The 05 cars won;t be available until mid Feb. We'll announce the VXR with the 6.0L LS2 end of December time.The V8 - if all goes well - would arrive for March earliest.
Both will have a slight price rise due to change in equipment and exchange rates.
Internal opinion is divided on hood scoops!!

I would buy one in the gold, its a bit like the manta my grandad had years ago.

Hate the bonnet scoops they look dire.

Think the price at £28.5k is about right for the standard model....too much more and year old M3's become a sensible alternative.

Been lurking around the HSV part of Pistonheads for a while now........ checking out and learning the views on the Monaro.....

At present i'm driving a Honda S2000 which is a good car, but want to move back to a coupe with more torque. I like the scoops , I like the colour, ands lets have some more yellows, blues and anything else bright

What worries myself is the trouble I have in trying to test a car at a Vauxhall dealer, plus their ability to maintain the vehicle also worries me.

The Monaro, with masses and masses of low end grunt, couldn't be more different to the high revving - but low torque - S2000. You can pull away from a standstill in 2nd and 3rd gear, and take roundabouts in 4th gear, easily! Only problem when going from a high revving car (I used to have a Boxster) to the Monaro, is that it's easy to hit the rev limiter before you know it - limiter is just over 6k rpm.

The Monaro is spacious and comfortable inside (the ride is maybe a little firm) the handling is very good for a car of its size, the steering and turn in are good, but - IMO - the brakes are not all that great. I've upgraded mine with APs.

It's very easy to mod for more power ~ 400 bhp easy. It's one of those cars that has real presence on the road, and looks far better for real than in pictures for some reason.

Don't worry about maintenance - it's actually quite a straightforward car mechanically, nothing unusual about it. The small block Chevy V8 has been around for years, it just requires a standard service every 10k miles.

On servicing all you have to be careful of is that the garage appreciate the car and don't treat it like a Corvette. Small things like the oil filter are different from the American LS1. This is where a Vauxhall dealer could have an advantage over an independent garage. At least they only have the option of the standard parts list from Holden. I have a 2001 HSV-UK which like the Monaro has great street presence and it quite similar except having 4 doors. Since buying the car in March this year I have never regretted it!!
