Picked the car up on Saturday and it is every bit as good as I imagined it would be.

already covered 400 miles (just trying to get to the magic 600 so it's run in)

Managed 25 MPG on a 250 mile run using BP Ulitmate - Granted I wasn't hammering the thing but this seams okay. I only managed 29 MPG in my volvo T5

Is this good, bad or average

I'm only getting 18mpg average out of my VXR, but then I am using it to commute to work along country lanes, I would expect to get more than that on a motorway journey (about 28mpg from what I've heard). I've only just broken the 600 miles, so still really in the running in period.

Incidentally, do you have a noticable (not loud) transmission whine at low speed (10-25mph) in 1st and 2nd, or do I have a noisy gearbox?

Not noticed but will listen out for it - In all the excitement I probably wouldn't have noticed.

What I can say is the car feels a lot quicker than I remember even with only 400 miles on the clock

25mpg is fine. My CV8 returns a fairly consistent 19mpg on a daily commute of 25 miles each way, about 20 of those on busy motorway; but then I do have a VERY heavy right foot I got 24mpg on a long off-peak motorway run a while back.

9500 miles covered already and rising fast

So, they're pretty economical then? My 300ZX returns about 17mpg......less if I'm "making progress"

Just another thing to add to the "pro" list when the time comes

the worst average I get is about 19mpg, and thats in a nightmare drive to and from work. The average speed for the last tankful was 30mph ! I have noticed that the fuel used according to the computer and what I actually put in every time is usually about 5 litres out, so maybe the mpg figure from the computer isn't very accurate either.

I can get 19mpg on a good day in the VXR.

Typically I get around 14-15mpg.

Best was 25mpg on a trip down to cornwall.
