Just back from a weekend jaunt to Devon in the ro. Longest roadtrip so far in the year I've had it. Handled everything beautifully. M4/M5, A-roads, and many a single track (hedges brushing the wingmirrors both sides!) Love this car!

Thought I'd save this from falling to page 2!

Anyway, US fly drive type affair, anyone done it? Thinking maybe start on the west coast, drive east, ideally leave hired car half way or so, not really given it much thought, hoping somebody has some ideas?

Good places to hire a proper car from (ideally a Challenger)?

Couple of weeks seems sensible to get the most out of it?

Are there simpler package deals like this, or would I be better off booking a couple of one way flights (normally expensive?) and sorting the hire car myself?

Did the west coast for my honeymoon 3 years ago in a mustang smile was fantastic

We did a lot of searching & in the end the best deal was by doing the flights & car through virgin as they did a package including insurance which was way cheaper than any others & at the time they were the only ones that would cover the holiday if it was delayed by the volcanic ash clouds that we had at the time.

We didn't book any hotels except for the first night.

Virgin def the best airline to fly with, have travelled about 8 times to USA and Canada always booked the car when arriving, and like Neil I have only pre booked the first night at a hotel, when arriving and being questioned at arrivals you have to HAVE an address or they will not let you carry on with your holiday!!!

Any of you who've been to V8UK meets may well recognise the car, friend's workshop had an electrical fire yesterday, no idea what caused it yet, but the car is gutted frown

http://www.v8uk.co.uk/fire-fund/

He's had it over 15 years (since he was 17!) and has put so much work into it, and was literally hours work from finishing adding the twin turbos to it.

Everyone with a garage, go check the sockets are turned off, yeah? frown

Not good, But I hope some kind of insurance was in place to cover the workshop etc and therefore cover all losses inc the car?
