This is what had been done to mine when I bought it, no idea how effective it is but seen similar on older Holdens....

Great idea that I'll tap into (except for small cone). But. Needs an insulating plate to stop hot air being dragged in from the engine bay.[/URL]
Strap looks a bit S&M?

So am I, there is no plate it's hollow inside the filter so the air flow is not obstructed. It closes off about 3 inches inside the filter.Agree it needs some tweaks but unfortunately so does the house, but feedback very helpful thank you all.

I assume the filter is like this:Edited by Kiwi LS2 on Sunday 24th August 09:33
I love this forum, I didn't know this type of filter was available until now

I've ordered one of these. Very excited to fit it. I wonder if it is worth making up a cold air feed from the lower grill aswell.
I was thinking of modding the K&N into something similar...I'm just wondering whether I'd mod it so hard I might as well start from scratch. I'm leaning toward the 6.0 version for the larger pipe diameter and ability to locate the IAT sensor where I like, but would have to extend the pipe to bridge the MAF. I noticed my foglights are a little manky around the edges. Tempted to mod the lower grille now...

I can't see the image. I noticed my foglights are a little manky around the edges. Tempted to mod the lower grille now...

Looks quite good. There is a lower feed anyway, its built in, or should be.The main lesson to learn from cold air intakes is filter area! 6.05cfm/sq inch of filter. (K&N filter flow stats)
You will want a bare minimum of around 1.7cfm per rwhp, which is roughly 2cfm per fwhp.
With 1 lost kPa worth close to 1% power while 1*C is "only" worth about 0.3% power its intake restriction that kills.
Just like having a throttle that wont go fully open.
So 600bhp = 1200cfm = 189 sq inches required.

Working from the rotofab G8 intake height of 8", Top cone of 5 and bottom of 7.5 gives 220sq inches or 1331cfm
Compare that with your otr panel filters...
Its not exact, but it gets you in the ballpark.
Another thing to check is intake manifold pressure vs atmospheric at full throttle. If they are not the same you have an intake restriction, could be throttle, maf, filter or pipework..
Buying based on anything else is just random.
I have been looking at CAI kits and wonder, when fitted, what happens when you give the old girl a hard stab on the go pedal and the block moves on it's mountings, I don't see any flexibility built into the kits to allow for side to side movement of the block. The bog standard intake tube on my LS2 Ro appears to have a section that will allow a concertina effect, does anyone know if the concertina section of the intake tube is there to allow for side to side movement of the block ?

They usually have a softer silicon or rubber connector between CAI and throttle body.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
