Considering you can clearly see there is at least one broken wire....readings codes is almost a waste of time when a blatantly obvious problem is in front of you and needs rectified.It'd be like going to the doctors with a bullet hole in you to ask him what's wrong.

Would I be right in assuming that you're fairly young? Only when I was younger, my dad used to point out obvious failings like frayed wires, yet I was convinced that the manufacturers used to put half of the stuff on a car that weren't actually needed. Yep. 28 (I presume that puts me at the young end of the bracket?). That's probably why I don't have my own soldering iron yet!
The garage that I took it to said that they couldn't read the codes and therefore weren't sure what was wrong!! So after loosing all faith in their ability and taking a couple of bits off myself to have a look at what was actually happening (rather than just expecting a computer to tell me) I immediately noticed the obvious 'pulley eating the connector issue'... but I suppose i was just being a pessimist in that I couldn't be absolutely sure that was the issue (even though there was a pretty strong chance it was!) until I had fixed it... hence me badgering you lot for some reassuring 'yeah, that'll be it mate- get cracking' type comments while I was stuck at work with my mind wandering!
Like I keep saying though, I'm still looking forward to attending my first meet and putting some faces to names

Just a note as a fellow LPG supporter - and knowing there is often a fair amount of hostility towards it - as long as the installation is sound, there should be no issues going forward.
Early days with my CV8, I had stuttering, and very low rev's pulling up to junctions/slowing down/stopping etc, sometimes causing it to stall. We took the throttle body apart, it looked clean, but it is deceptive how dirty a 'clean' looking component can be. Some cleaner and much wiping and the cloth was black, I didn't realise you should be able to see a reflection in clean metal
This partially cured the problem, but it was still intermittent. Something else to check if it still comes up occasionally, is spark plugs and HT leads. These need to be tip top for LPG - turns out mine were past their best, the sparks were at 50+K miles and the leads presumably the same. New plugs and leads (the leads disintegrated trying to get them off) and not had a running issue since apart from running slightly rich on petrol but that's more to do with a recent map and further mods that now needs sorting out.

To be fair to the garage, I think they have done a solid job with the LPG. It's been absolutely rock solid since it was done. I'll bear that in mind with regards to the sparks etc... I think they were changed at some point in its history but will have to check how far back (she's done 73k now).

I'm afraid you may have lost me there mate!The LPG was done a while ago now, without a single issue. I've deduced that the frayed wire was as a result of the airbox/MAF sensor connection becoming a bit dislodged I think... now that I've put it back together properly the wires are well clear of the pulley. As to how it became dislodged in the first place I'm not sure (I suppose there's a chance it could have even been me when I swapped the air box out) In any case, it's sorted now and she's running just fine. It felt good to stretch her legs the other day!
