I’ve been an owner of a 2008 R8 for just over 6 months now and done just over 5000 miles, it’s an LS2 auto. I absolutely love it and it’s a fabulous car.

Couples of things though and just wondered if anyone had any advice……I’ve noticed that when on full power pulling away from stationary that more often than not when it reaches the red line its not always changing up to 2nd gear cleanly, it will just hit the red line and sort up max out and only change up to 2nd if I lift off power, noticed same sometimes when going 2nd to 3rd. If I flip over to sport and manually change up on the red line its fine but I guess that’s because it’s not going as deep into the red line area and I'm telling it to change.

Also, I find when just driving around normally sometimes 30-40mph its goes to kick down to a lower gear (4th to 3rd) that the power briefly cuts out for a second while it thinks about what it’s doing? That’s probably more annoying as you end up jerking forward everytime.

I don’t think this should be normal behaviour, I tend to just drive around using manual sport now to avoid the issues above which is fine. It’s due it’s 50000 mile Service in a few months time, I will probably use picador as most local, anyone any ideas or experience of this?

Cheers
Justin

Can't comment on the auto as I've not driven one myself, but many others on here have shown similar frustration as to how the auto box behaves.

You might be surprised to learn that the way the box functions can be changed by way of a computer re-map. Companies like Walkinshaw Performance offer this. It's not cheap, but those that have had it done have reported huge improvements in the manner of the box, how it drives and when/how it chooses to change gear etc. Might be worth looking at.

What Paul said get it re-mapped makes a big difference.

Pull the fuse, to reset the learning process on the gearbox. If it continues, it could be the oil level.

Rather than just having it topped up, I'd also be inclined to have the gearbox oil replaced at the next service.
