Please tell me why after buying a 300-400BHP car you would possibly want to modify it? Isn't that enough gee gees? It is for me. Scary fast enough. I just don't get it. It's like "boy racers" but for grown ups. or maybe that's it!! Rather spend my money on a nice Caribbean holiday.

Hi Booster.

Have you ever been to a racetrack and heard the thunder of a real V8, and then visited a showroom only to find that the emission and noise laws on the roadcar equivalent turn the V8 into a muted pussycat.

It's not just a power increase that you get when you change a few bits - you get the soundtrack too

Anyway these cars weigh nearly 2 tons and need power to counter the weight disadvantage, and modifications also allow car owners to individualise their ride so that they don't merge into boring repmobiles, it allows them to stand out as individuals.

Personally I think a Caribbean holiday is not for me, two weeks in the sun leaves you with a beergut and a fading suntan but a Stage2 upgrade gives you a huge grin everytime you turn the key and big flames on gearchanges. These big V8's are begging to be tuned, their potential is huge so you should not be asking us why we tune them, we should be asking you why you are not tuning yours ! - you must be mad not to

The quest for power never ends.

uk-hsv - appreciate the invite!

Dan , Thanks for the enlightening response. just what I predicted. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my Monaro...It's the dogs nuts. But I just don't need it to go any faster or for it to be on fire when I change gears. It turns enough heads as it is. In fact I overtook some poor old guy in a Rover last week and the noise must have scared the cr@p outta him as he ended up on the curb - much to my son's amusement.

I haven't been to a racetrack and heard a "real" V8. Perhaps I should avoid it as this modding game looks VERY expensive. And that would mean the wife doesn't get her Caribbean holiday and that would have serious consequences as far as the "bedroom" is concerned ;-)

Having said all this I DID stick some Monaro badges on the rear panels as I think they look really cool. Does that count as a "mod"?

That counts !!!

Give it a few months and you will get used to the power, but you are right about the expense side of things. Plus the wife would probably remove ones testicles if the cash was spent on an exhaust instead of an air fair - girls never understand

Alternatively, why don't you just spend a little bit of money upgrading/modding the wife so she appreciates what you've got. That way she'll only want cheap holidays which will release the cash for the 'project'.

I guess I'm just very lucky. It was the girlfriend who first fell in love with the monaro after it was reviewed on Top Gear. What is one to do when the 'boss' says she wants a muscle V8? Who am I to argue with that request

As a relative newbie also I have yet to start to traverse the mod path, but it's coming...

Only had mine since XMas and have already got used to the power. Had to drive my girfriends Vauxhall Astra Turbo Coupe the other day and thought it was broken. Just seemed to have no power. Thank god it was only a short trip

PS: Nice car & welcome to the forum.

I suspect I am more in to the cosmetic side of the car than most here. I like my cars to look good and I don't mind turning heads (to be honest). That goes for the wife too who I have to say is cosmetically "near perfect"! Although being a woman she would moan at that comment with something like "WHAT only NEAR!!"
Sadly, I do spend a lot of time cleaning the car and that is how hsv-uk got me onto this forum as I am a huge Meguiar's fan and post frequently on the Meguiar's forum. Their stuff when used properly is just awesome. I hadn't really bothered with the "testosterone/muscle must-mod" bit of the car. BUT I'm here and I'm waiting to be convinced....as I no doubt will be!!

OK. So how much IS a Stage2 thingy - the one that sets fire to the exhaust.

Get rid of the wife - don't go much on holidays unless I can drive there, but hey I'm totally obsessional about my cars, but my two daughters come first.

The only visable mod on my holden is yellow painted nut covers, makes it go well though.

Forgot to say 'welcome aboard booster'
