Missing Ring !!
Discussion
This seems to be about the best I can do with a bit of sanding and some acetone vapour...it's not perfect (odd pinhole), but I think it wouldn't be noticed on a black car (although admittedly I haven't compared it to the paint on mine). They do key quite nicely and with paint I think they'd be fine. Message me for one and tell me the colour of your car...if it isn't black it will just be keyed, ready for prime/paint.

They pass the 10' eyeball test and they cost peanuts, so I guess that's a win. FPFQ as the septics would say though!I found a small amount of red filament, so making a couple more now - most things I make just need to be strong, so it is interesting how far you can push the finish of the raw plastic. They end up looking like sucked sweets if you over-smooth them...
Lathed stock, keyed and painted would obviously be the best result, but 75mm stock (probably PVC) isn't cheap and would mostly end up in the bin...these have about 3 metres of 1.75mm filament in them, so literally pennies on the raw material cost (spent more on consumables, hairspray, tape, acetone, etc.!).

That's impressive. Are you using an industrial 3d printer or a domestic one?
If you have any spare after everyone else who has requested one ill happily buy one off you. My rear fog has been replaced with a square monstrosity and I'd be happy to go back to a round one!
It's just a consumer grade printer which is part of the challenge...but it has a heated bed so can do nice and toxic ABS properly (many are limited to PLA, which is the biodegradable stuff your strawberries come in...). Would be good to confirm they fit, but shouldn't be a problem

Good to know they use the good stuff, not some namby pamby biodegradable plastic Would be good to confirm they fit, but shouldn't be a problem
That's good, be interested to see a pic
I've still got a little black (and a tiny bit of red) left if it wants tweaking or anyone else wants one (not forgotten rytaylor)...if the colours are a fair match then it's a cheap solution (if paying for professional paint I would be tempted to make the rings on a lathe).

I've not checked the fit as I've not needed to fit it I've just had it as a spare thinking they'll prove difficult to find in the future. As for quality of finish I think your worrying about nothing I've seen oem stuff with a worse finish and there's nothing a few coats of high build primer and a bit of wet n dry won't sort out.

Kind of you to say - these FDM printers can be very useful, but it usually looks a bit scraggy Paul.
I'm tempted to print something oversize that can easily go into the lathe chuck to allow more aggressive sanding...it might take out the corrugation effect from it being built in layers.

rytaylor, I had some silver (sponsored by ferret), so PM me your address and I'll put this in the post.
The silver is more like grey rolled in glitter though!
Awesome. Thanks very much. The silver is more like grey rolled in glitter though!
No worries about the finish - mine is red so I'll spray it anyway with some other bits that need done. I really should update the picture in my profile from my old silver one to avoid confusion...
