Nope. Was with them on Monday and they dogged me about it . Simple reason is that we can't offer an anti corrosion warranty when half the car is not galvanised.
There is also a second reason, and thats the lack of a big diesel engine without which we'd never get the volume.
Shame really.
Anyway my new Maloo R8 turns up next week....purely a marketing toy.. er I mean promotional vehicle

No offence to you stu or any of the guy's that get on here, as you all now what goes on, but diesel engine Big or not, "NO"
Most of the UK just don't understand hay, & don't tell me they are a Truck or pickup please.
Ute = V8 Cruising, you don't do that in a Diesel
Big Petrol Sucking V8's were made for the Ute mate.
Rob.

I could see a market for a diesel version of the ute, maybe not the Maloo, in fact NOT the Maloo or the SS version. I don't mean just in the UK either.
For the stock (exec?) version of the UTE, a diesel would make a good option. I seem to recall reading about a One tonner diesel version somewhere...maybe...thinking...maybe not.
I also think they are considering an AWD One tonner. In OZ it would have to do battle with the Rodeo Diesel (Izuzu) so not sure how it would go.
Oz isn't into Diesel cars as much as Europe. I am considering the Ute a car by the way!
Maloo...mmm...nice choice! no doubt, it unfortunately comes with an LS2 6litre????

Hi Stu
So you're riding around in your new toy, blowing people away and you get loads of enquiries for one,"sorry you can't have one because we couldn't give a warranty as half the car isn't galvanised". What!!!
So get Holden to galvanise them on the line and then they could come here,'low volume'.The Monaro is here and it doesn't set the sales charts alight.
When I worked on the line for 'the opposition',all things like galvanising and 'special vehicle orders'were done on the line as each car went round. Why couldn't Utes for the UK and other'damp in winter'countries' be treated as they go through the body shop during production. Can't understand Holdens' policy on that. We are now talking world markets where colours are shared between a UK Astra and an Aussie Commodore, and on many cars even the dash layouts are similar.Whats the difference in outlook behind the wheel of a Vectra/Omega and a Commodore/Monaro? not a lot.I was amazed at 'The Ace' when you told me that Aussie cars don't have under body protection. Why don't they build to a world market? 'Make'em the same, sell
'em everywhere'.Local regs applied of course.
This country needs the Maloo and 'the oppositions' offerings of similar shape and performance, to relieve us of the boring, run of the mill junk that blight our roads.(I can't mention by name 'the opposition'on here as Rob and Wayne get upset but you know who I mean.)
Any Forum contributors who haven't been 'down under' should go.Utes are'ten a penny'and there are horny motors wherever you go. Here, boy racers scream around in Saxos and Pugs,GTIs etc, down there'Hoons'have V8s,e.g.Toranas,Commodores,Falcons and assorted Yank muscle. Go to one of the many weekend car meets. Much of the stuff is outrageous. Anyway, enough of the travelogue.Get down there and see some interesting motors. So,the UK motoring scene needs the Maloo, HSV,Monaro, and yes, even the opposition, sorry Rob.

If Monaro production moves to the US for the 2007 model, they may also take the ute, which means a different plant building the car and it might get galvanised all over, GM may market the ute as the Chevy El Camino (its been done before in Sth Africa)
Chevrolet may be eager to add the model to thier existing lineup in England either as a Chevy or a Vauxhall, hey presto a ute in England, I do think there is more of a market for normal utes than Hsv's, and they do need a diesel due to the tax on petrol.
There's a lot of if's above, but their ain't no point in stopping dreaming
