don't forget to get a reinforced/ heavy duty side walled tyre , as monaro's can be funny with certain tyres , 93 rating does not work 95 is better , i use kuhmos ku39 a good all round tyre with a good price i can't justify the cost of mpss
I'm currently using the Kumho PS91 on my VXR8 and find them way more grippier than the old KU39's. My local tyre guy did them cheaper than the KU39's too. So far very happy with them. You may wanna give them a go next time VXR2010

A bit of an update on my tyres - when I bought mine it had Avon ZZ5s on and to be honest it felt floaty and vague. The fronts weren't in the best of condition and had started to wear the inside edges but the rears were good with about 5mm tread. The car is otherwise standard (Monaro VXR) suspension etc so I was keen to see what difference tyres made.

I went with Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3s as price and availability (through Costco) was good - appreciate they aren't the preferred MPS but they aren't a "budget" tyre for sure. I have now done about 300 miles of mixed driving and the car feels loads better - less floaty and vague and also able to get its power down a little better (in a more controlled way). What it does expose is the known elements - the suspension would benefit from being a little fresher (I am planning a Pedders Low kit), the original/standard bushes and top mounts are sloppy (again going to upgrade with REP and RRP) and the rack isn't quick. It now feels that the tyres are doing there bit and you can adapt your driving around the other shortfalls without that uncertainty!
