You will have to remove cover, my pipes looked ok, thats the problem you think they are OK, but its the rubber mounting for the pipes that are the problem. Prise back the rubber and the rust is inside that section of rubber.

If you want to check other mounting at other points along pipe run towards the wheels and prise backthe rubber on them to check for rust to get a idea what I am saying.

Regarding getting cover off, the fixings came off OK on mine.

Hope this info helps.

With regards these rusting brake pipes.... I’ve just been looking through my service history for info to help another member sort his brakes and I’ve found that when the AP kit was fitted (at only a few years old) all the brake lines were replaced with “steel” pipes? What is this? I figured it might be another way of saying braided flex’s?

The stainless steel braided brake hoses run from the brake calliper ( they are flexible and have a smooth plastic sheath for protection ) and join into the hard steel brake lines. Basically they replace the standard factory rubber hoses. There are six braided hoses on a Monaro, two on the front, and four on the rear. The extra two hoses on the rear can be found joining from the suspension sub frame to the hard steel brake lines, this allows some movement between the two. If you have these fitted they will be obvious, once they are cleaned up. last week I actually cleaned mine up as they were filthy. They look nice now!!!!
If the hard steel brake lines have been replaced, you can tell as the install is usually not as neat as the factory, they would also hopefully use a corrosion proof pipe such as copper which looks different.

A massive thank you for everyone’s interest and advice, this forum has been the best, most knowledgable and positive I’ve ever been a part of but today I waved goodbye to the Monaro.
Don’t let anyone tell you these cars are loosing value or interest, I sold it within one week to the first guy for the full asking price! Thanks pistonheads!!!!!!

It's good to hear that people are still interested in these cars, and I hope you enjoyed your ownership. Best of luck with your next car.
