I take mine apart on a regular basis as they stop woking very soon (not upto UK salt/rain/dirt)
but when looked after they work very well.........
Wise words ukhsv, I am in the process of refurbing my brakes.
Each of my 4 calipers had at least one piston ceased SOLID.
The car past the MOT last month which shows how good the brakes are, but I had noticed the deteriation of the brakes, particularly since last summer.
Interestingly, I've had a rear pad slap since I bought the car, on splitting the calipers it has shown the pads have been thrown in completely incorrectly before I had bought the car!!!!!!!!

Would it be fair to say that you have more than your fair share of winter salt/grit on them northern roads mr Jagsy ? while us wannabe southerners have outback style sunshine all year round
Mindyou they use mountains of the stuff here on that solitary night of the year when we have a mild frost and I reckon the salt is a killer for corrosion.

I've got new brakes all round
I've got new DBA discs fitted, drilled and grooved:
-front 2 piece
-rear 1 piece which has kangaroo paw cooling pattern!!!
Must say a big thanks to Mark at www.dba.com.au for a CLASS service. He is a first rate guy and the service was brilliant. So far the discs are spot on, time will tell, however, the DBA reputation is VERY GOOD.
Thanks to Eric who already has these discs for his comments on experiences.
I've got rebuilt calipers with new seals and boots. All the pistons have been free'd and are back to new
The company who provided the caliper build kit has a service standard that can be debated, I will talk more off line if interested!!!!!!!!!
I've got the calipers shot blasted and re painted.
I've got EBC red stuff ceramic pads all round.
Obtaining pads was no problem, time will tell on how well they go with the dba discs.
Hmmmmmm nice
Only issue I have is pedal feel. The brakes work and stop well now that they are bedding in (stop VERY WELL) - but I think I might need some further bleed on the system to get pedal right.
Regular brake check is recommended by me BIG TIME
I like the black hubs on the discs
Just the rims to tidy up now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is exactly the "symptom" I had immediately after I fitted my APs - brakes work good but the pedal felt too soft - thought it was air in the system, bled it loads of times, made no difference. ~ 4000 miles later (and 1 track day - to bed them in ) the pedal is rock hard and the brakes awesome.

Well there you go, my tip if you fit them is to have the ignition circuit on when doing so to stop any potential problems with ABS sensors.
All my cars are on braided hoses, that where the feel difference is detected, standard hoses will expand by comparison to braided, 100% recc by me IMAO
