Cheers, Very nice that, but £42000.00, wow.

Could get a lovely 911 for that price.

Very true, will be interesting though to see what the car eventually sells for, plus I think prices are definitely on the up as a good Monaro over time will become harder to find.

A very nice looking car , plus low mileage , i would prefer it over a porsche , but as above it really depends on what some one will pay , monaro’s and vxr8 are not common cars and becoming rarer so maybe prices on the up

Personally the VXR500 badge means nothing to me, so I'd far rather pick up a VXR for under £15k and spend the money supercharging it myself, end up with far more power and so on and less of the badges thrown all over the back.

I can't see that car ever selling for £42,000, I mean it's been up for 3 years already. Yes they're rare over here, but they're rare and largely unknown, I just don't think there's the demand to mean that the limited supply can drive the prices up.

Happy to be proven wrong though, and I certainly don't think the values will drop, they've been largely the same for 10 years, maybe increasing over the last couple of years but then there's also been inflation over the last 10 years...

I disagree I think demand is growing for our cars, I also think prices will climb slowly for a well kept or sorted Monaro.
The Monaro is like no other car on the road due to the fact it has character in abundance and gets under your skin like no other, there is just something different about a Holden which I love, it is my opinion the market will grow for these cars.

it would be boring if we all had one type of vxr8 or one type of monaro ,nice to have something different , horses for courses , i like utes , strangely the monaro age of utes , but i have 2010 ute , plus i have an 04 cv8 , much prefer the cv8 as a drivers car , i expect 12k £ on mods helped that , but ute looks very good

It’s hard to tell what will happen in the UK, in the short term I’ve noticed advertised prices on the up, but cars also not selling. Been the same red vxr wanting £14k for a year on autotrader.

In Oz, any Holden V8 has gone up, followed by anything chrome bumper. That trend will continue in Oz for sure.

I have to agree. I would love the VXR500 over any Porsche. And with that low a mileage you could enjoy it everyday and still keep the mileage low / value high.

I'm in a similar boat, have had the Monaro for 9 years so I have long since stopped keeping track of the mod spend, that's easily the most 'exciting' to drive. I have an 03 Ute (so VY era) which is pretty low and is just so, so cool.

And to prove I've got the disease badly, I picked up a VE Commodore wagon on Monday to relieve the Ute of daily duties. Totally different to the other 2, it's so quiet and comfortable in comparison that I'm planning on resisting any modding. For a bit. Probably. hehe

I think although the Monaros and other Holdens do appeal to a certain niche audience, their prices will ultimately be limited by "you could get X for that" if they went much higher than they are, certainly there's nothing else that appeals to me in the same way, but if the manual isn't absolutely mandatory, a Monaro at £15k is lining up against big V8 AMGs for example, and I imagine to many potential buyers not having to explain why they've bought a Vauxhall will hold some value. And more the fool them of course smile

Like my mate keeps telling me 'everyone loves the Ute!'

No there isn't compared to some of the cars Monkfish turned out which includes mine, but the VXR 500 was turned out by a dealer thus registered on the all important log book which in my eyes will bring strong future value.

Just to add there have been lots of people on here over the years saying eventually our cars would be worth next to nothing going forward, I even remember people saying they would wait around for a 5 grand Monaro, obviously that didn't happen.

A half decent Monaro now is depreciation proof in my eyes in other words you can have a go if you don't like then sell for around what you paid.

Is the current VXR 500 for sale at 42k worth it absolutely! Look what happened with the ford Capri as a comparison.

I agree with the above the Monaro is depreciation proof now. Even so it's still pretty cheap compared to a similar era Mustang.
If you venture in to the classic car arena the Monaro is a bargain compared to the price of a good Capri 3.0S or 2.8 Injection, never mind a MK 1 or MK 2 Escort.

I'm loving my Monaro so far and can 100% see the appeal. As many have said on here once you drive them they are addictive.

The problem Monaros have is that they lack the 'legend' status of many of the models that have appreciated in the last few years for example much of the JDM stuff. There just isn't the lust for Monaros as the millennials who are now all in their late 20's / early 30's want the cars that they drove on Gran Turismo or watched win rally stages in the early 00's.

I agree that Monaros have probably hit the bottom of the depreciation curve but I am not sure they will ever command top money.

It is a legend in Aus. The excitement when the concept car was shown at the 2000 motor show was electric. Aus prices will keep the uk price stable in my opinion.

And the generation that will push the prices up are blokes currently in their late 30/40s now who wanted to buy one when they came out new and couldn’t, but now have extra cash

Just to be pedantic, the 04 Monaro and 04 Commodore SS were in Gran Turismo 4, 5 and 6, naturally under the Holden brand hehe

They were still afflicted with the "sounds like a hairdryer" problem though so hardly representative. The Monaro VXR also appeared in Forza thumbup

I do remember the VXR in Forza but I didn't know they were in Gran Turismo to be fair. Come on millennials get buying them and start driving that price up!!!
