Hello all,

I am going through about 1 litre of oil every 2000 miles, I am guessing this is nothing to be concerned about.
I have topped it up with 0-30 rated oil and noticed the oil pressure is a little lower then previously with the original oil, should I be using 0-40 or something else?

Cheers
David

I would just like to add, I would check the manual but after 2 1/2 months of owning the car I am still waiting for Vauxhall to send a manual and service book.

I would get back to your dealer and give them a bollocking.

I use 5 or 10-40

I think your oil's a bit on the thin side. Wouldn't the 10/40 be a better bet now the weather's getting warmer.

I agree with boosted ls1, 0w-* is a tad on the thin side for these engines in our climate. The owners manual (if/when you get one) says 10w-30 F/S oils. However, this is for the Australian climates. European cars can quite happily run on 10w-40 all year round, although 5w-40 would be an alternative for the cooler months.

Personally, I've recently put in Valvoline 10w-40 F/S for summer use and will be putting the 5w-40 F/S in for winter. 6 monthly oil changes gives you this option if you want it.

It's a very personal choice as to what oils you use, but maybe this thread will be of some use to get you started:

FYI, I'm running the Vauxhall 10W-40 semi and I change it every 5000mls - It comes out quite clean and oil consumption is minimal.

Clean oil? How clean? I'd be happier if it came out dark. I've only had my oil in for a few weeks and you can start to see a modicum of discoloration already. Clean oil means you either have an extremely effifient engine or the oils not doing it's job.

Mine ('04 CV8) hasn't used much so far ~ 1.5 litres over 9000 (hard) miles.

draining clean/cleanish oil isn't a problem, just means someone has looked after the engine in the past,
or it may not have done that many miles, IE: changed oil on time, the oil won't turn to sludge, and it will help carbon buildup as well, which is possibly making your oil dirty.

err, i wouldn't be using F/S oil straight from the off either, you wont to give time for the engine and more importunatly the rings time to bed in, stick in F/S to early and the rings will never bed in.

Appologies LS6Wetdream, I just forgot to mention new'ish engines in my reply. Sorry. I'd still expect a slight discoloration though, it just might not be perceivable until you compare the drained oil next to the new.
