I'm in love ....

7.0 litre 400kw, race inspired cabin, minamilist design, maximum performance, all modifications to the body had to be functional - "we decided from the very beginning that if it doesn't work, we don't want it on the car"

Fabulous car - was priced at $215,000 (!) never made even limited production due to developments costs and final price!

I'd like the push button start for my car - anybody know of a kit to do it

ABSOLUTE STUNNER!! If only she was less than 2/10ths of the advertised price.

kewl dash! I'd love to have that digital dash installed in mine. Anyone know if they ever went in to production with that component either as an upgrade or aftermarket?

GSE - As for the keyless push start idea, great idea, but not sure how easy it would be to accomplish as an after market thing. The key contains the code & electronics to disable the immobiliser so you'd have to re-engineer it somehow. You'd also have to disable the steering lock. I hate to say it but the FPVs have this feature by default. Does that tell you something?

Great post b.t.w

yeah, nice car, hence the name!
mini's had push button start, as do laguna's, so it should be pretty easy to wire up, just gotta find a nice looking button.

I love the subtle styling, I've always preferred the original Monaro shape, over the HSV versions - black chin spoiler - chrome rings around the fog lights - mesh grille (is that the oil cooler behind?) - and the small bonnet vents (air to cool the brakes?) I think the only things I'd change would be the wheels - don't like the bendy spokes - and I'd make the petrol cap body colour.

Re the push button start. Yes the Lagunas have one (I drive them regularly) but they use an electronic keycard as well. There is no key lock on the steering column - although there is a steering lock mechanism as you can hear (and feel) it disengage, when the keycard is inserted in it's slot. But I think the Laguna push button would do the job for the Monaro. Looks like its fitted in place of the trip computer control though, so you'd have to find somewhere else for it to go. You'd have to retain the Monaro key (and built in immobiliser cct) and steering lock, find the starter enable contacts on the back of the ignition switch, disconnect them, and run them through to the new push button location. In fact, if you look at the interior pic of the 427, the steering lock and key are still there, I think.

BTW - the Lagunas sound so WEEDY when you start them up, that it seems pointless having the system on that car. But when I start my Monaro from cold - Boooom!! - the garage door nearly comes off its hinges

This fits in place of a cigarette lighter, apparently.

Saw this car at the Melbourne Motor Sport Show in 2002?Fantastic it was too. If memory serves correctly they only made a few of them about 50.I'm not sure if any were sold to the public before the project was cancelled. Others on the Forum may know otherwise. There's plenty of info about it on the 'net

I'm reading about the 427 in the excellent Joshua Dowling book "Monaro - rebirth of a legend"

50 were planned ..... just 2 (pre-production) were produced, none sold to the public

Development costs / the need for crash testing / very high final price seems to have killed it. There were plenty of interested customers though ...

"Hardcore Monaro" basic spec:

140 kg lighter than standard car
magnesium wheels
aluminium suspension components
adjustable rear wing
no air/con radio
roll bar
race seats/harness
computer dash display / push button start
ap brakes
7.0 litre 'big block'
Power : 420 kw / 560 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque : 780 nm @ 4800 rpm
Top Speed : 300+ km/h
0-100 km/h : 3.9 sec.
Quarter Mile : 11.5 secs

Bearing in mind the big success that the Monaro has been, do you rekon there is any chance they could have another go at marketing one (at a lower price ...) before the current Monaro platform is replaced?
