As this thread progresses it does seem that there is a lot of negativity around Wortec tuning from people that have first hand experience of them.
Zero negativity about Carl and Luis.............
Hopefully that has answered the original question posted then! beer

Years ago there was a question raised about who actually moderated this forum, PH or a vendor. It seemed to be the vendor who held sway on the posts iirc. I could be wrong.

As for the tunes, I'm interested in all the comments as we can all gain. Some of the costs being put forward are eye watering but what price to have a car that's running well and for a long time? A week just seems daft though.

It's well known a lot of admin are like Nazis' with weird agendas about who they allow to post, some crazy censorship and bannings.

But a week is understandable given the logistics. It's a lot easier to drive and log, then email that, wait for updates and then upload, log again etc in each persons free time, without having to specifically dedicate time to it......rather than trying to get two people on opposite sides of the worlds to try and be available at the same time, to try and do everything there and then. That'd be a bit of a nightmare ( and daymare on the other side of the world lol )

Live Q+A with Luis and Carl via Facebook just starting. Perhaps a route to answers rather than debate?

Finally remembered my login biggrin

FWIW, my car was one of the first cars mapped in the UK by Luis. If you have your own EFILive, you can log as many times as you want and send him the files to tweak so you can then remap and log again. I think I probably now have one of the smoothest AFR's due to the continual small updates we performed over a few months.

I also briefly held the SRR supercharged record at 838ish BHP until PaulMac went one better, and now there are plenty of Gen-F's running 800BHP+. I have covered about 40k miles since having my car upgraded by Carl and Luis, including about 10 or 20 full runs down the runway, including being camera car for the European men's Record for a push bike (149mph) and plenty of spirited driving, a lot of the time on 95RON cos I am a cheapskate.

Even within the first few months of my time on this forum, I knew that certain tuners did not know what they were talking about so had held off getting it upgraded and tuned as I was not fully comfortable doing it myself. With Luis' help, my knowledge of tuning has greatly improved, but now I just let him do the larger stuff.

I have a few more things to add to the engine, and will pay a surcharge for tuning due the extra work required to bring it all in line, but I am happy to pay that because of all the support I have received over the years.

I have met luis, he's tuned my engine, offered much advice and helped with fault finding far beyond tuning. He is the real deal.

I was referred to him by Richard Ingram some time ago. I was doing an LS3 install ,sometimes running with an air restrictor.

The install was a little surreal. I was fitting it on a tight schedule and I had reservations with him being in Australia. However, whilst installing I would fire questions at him and send pictures to him on facebook messenger, If he was awake I had an answer before I put the phone back in my pocket.

He did two initial tunes, then recommended a different cam after it was clear my first choice was limiting, then did two more tunes.

I then met him and he checked the tunes on a RR. He adjusted some of the standard limp mode parameters relating to oil temperature for me.

Some time later I had an intermittent fault that caused the engine to drop into a limp mode and no throttle. I tried to fix this using the fault codes but there was next to nothing on the internet about it.

Using EFI live Luis was able to record the (I think four) signals between the TB, ECU and FBW throttle. he identified an irregular signal and we arrived at the wires between the TB and ECU, an unlikely source as it was an 18 month old genuine GM loom! I was at the point of ordering a replacement loom and ecu and losing more hair.

Despite all this extra work and much more he won't take a penny more than the original payment. More important to me is that he's always there, relaxed and ready to help, a proper gent.

Thought I should share this. My car is currently with Carl Herkes of LS Performance for a remap by Luis Sola. Carl has been having to rectify various issues done by a previous tuner, including some horrific wiring and I have nothing but praise for Carl so far. Within 1 hr of me dropping the car off (9pm) he had pulled and analysed the existing map and found some worrying issues, such as the low octane map. This also highlighted that both the o2 sensors were dead and subsequently the wrong type! These were installed by the aforementioned tuner prior to mapping (mapped twice and never said a word!).

I now can't wait to see what the car is like when it returns, I am not expecting a huge gain in power, that wasn't the reason for the re-tune, what I am hoping for is usable reliability so I can have some real fun in the car. I will be sure to let you guys know the outcome.

Carl and Luis kindly took mine on, I was a little stuck, did I spend more money sending it back to the original tuner, who came recommended, it had been trailered up there and back the first time, or cut my loses and start again and right off the first try as a life lesson. Being new to the tuning world I assumed most could be done remotely after the tune but the original tuners wanted to car back to begin to offer some form of resolution.

After chatting with Carl and nothing to lose I took the 2 hour drive down to Carl’s, we went for a drive, with a virtual Luis in tow and the car followed suit, going into limp mode and being underwhelming. I was usually able to do 45 minutes driving before it all shut down, which I’d got a dab hand at the moving switch off and reset.

What a difference, the car started, it didn’t keep rolling on its own, randomly going into limp mode and they found several extra horses.

Great experience, no points winning, politics or bks just two blokes that want the best for there customers and there motors.

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here but I thought I would update this thread after picking my car up from Carl today after it having the Sola treatment!
I’m not exaggerating when I say that it felt like I was driving a different car home! They managed to find some power gains but when Carl gave me the figures I was initially a little disappointed. 470bhp and 430 ft/lb at the fly and 385bhp at the wheels.
The disappointment lasted about 5 minutes into the drive home!! I know everyone uses this term but ‘night and day’ is really the only way to describe it. The power delivery is far more linear with much more low down grunt than it had before. But the smoothness is something else. The car feels tighter, like it’s knocked 10 years off it’s age. Transition being on and off the throttle is smooth and in turn, gear changes both up and down, whether you’re pushing on or driving slowly through a town, are a pleasure. The smoothness of it has greatly reduced the drivetrain slack making it barely noticeable above about 10mph. The car has literally been transformed.
And with regard to the power, my mate gave me a lift down in his fairly heavily tuned M4 and he was a little upset when we got back!!
All in all money well spent ( total was less than I expected too) and I can’t thank Carl and Luis enough. Wish I’d done it ages ago!!

Quite a few years ago I fitted a full exhaust and cold air kit to my LS1. The car then had a tune by Wortec and it's been fine ever since.
Would a tune by Carl be worth doing in my case or just leave it as it is?

I'd wait until you have your cam/head/intake mods done mate!biggrinlaugh

Seriously though, I wouldn't bother since you've not had any issues with your car and it has been years.
Mechanically its too close to stock, Wortec will have only tweaked it.
If you make any serious changes then sure get a new map.

If you’re not planning any other mods in the near future then I would say yes, it’s definitely worth it. I didn’t think there was too much wrong with mine until today!!!

I kind of thought that, but I had to ask. I've just had my wheels refurbished, my air con serviced and two front lower control arms replaced, so no more cash to spare at the moment.
A cam pack sounds tempting...but Mrs mfp4073 seems to get angry when I bring the subject up !!!!!

Cheers anywaysmile
