V8 HSV with LSV 25.07.05 - final visit?
Discussion
Though I would post on this topic as I have had so many conversations regarding the issues that I have with the cars engine modifications to date, hopefully looking for closure on the whole saga and despite what people might have thought I am still confident that LSV will be able to realise the cars potential for making substantial power.
What LSV have done to the suspension and its subsequent handling characteristics is in my opinion totally awesome, it’s like driving a different car, installs confidence and takes cornering ability to new heights, can’t wait to get it on track once I fit a quieter exhaust system.
I will be compiling a long-term road test covering 35,000 miles of ownership from purchase at 3 yrs old (30,000 on the clock) car that will initially deal with the car as standard and its subsequent modifications which I hope to host on my web site once I have evaluated LSV’s final work.

New suspension set up does sound fantastic, maybe my home improvements can wait a bit longer!
I am also confident that LSV will sort out the tuning, it's obviously very important/vital for them to get it right.
Really look forward to reading your long term test & hopefully actually seeing your car sometime soon.

It is indeed a very long story but in essence it relates to ECU tuning via a rolling road after realisation that a cetain Oz supplier does not tune ECU's for specific applications.
I have done literally everything I can think of to make the car faster, better handling, quicker stopping and expect + 600 figures in terms of BHP & torque, looking for no more 'work-in-progress' comments & closure on the whole saga that has been going on for over a year, over £50k spent on mods to date and I now expect results in the engine department!

It is already a bloody good car but 500+ brake just feels so slow and I hate the black smoke associated with over-fuelling. I expect it to be sub 10 seconds to 100 mph and 4 seconds to 60 and will go for the max (not in uk) when I get it back from Linden, should be good for 195 mph, I've seem 180+ on French roads already.
Will, did hear that it's poss. to change the gearing, making 6th a full on gear which should give you c.200mph+. Not for me at the moment as I'm still using the HSV for business & need the economy of 6th. But will be getting a newer estate soonish, so will use that more, in which case!
I've hit c.175mph on a slight uphill gradient & I defo. had more to go. Felt o.k as well, but aerodynamics & wind resistance play a massive role at high speeds, did read once about the extra power needed to get just an extra 5mph above 170mph, can't remember how much it was, but it was a lot.

You are right, that extra mph at huge speeds requires a massive power hike.
I know a fella with a 2004 Porsche 996 Turbo and he has got 100bhp+ more than stock, but the top speed has risen by about 10 mph.

I think the 4-door body hits an aerodynamic brick wall at 195 mph whereas the 2-door body will getr past 200 mph.
Yes revised gearing could get it past 200 but to be honest it is off little interest to me, yes I want to finf the max speed but in reality I will only be using 130-160 as top speed, tyres certainly are an issue, especially mine being 250 KG over weight.
Been quoted £3k for two new cogs, I think panoma has a new ratio set-up?

Must admit I'm not too sure about doing 200mph+ in a Commodre with a TWR designed body kit, even if Ian Callum was the designer.
I noticed a lot more wind noise at c.175mph, not sure if all the bits would stay on at 200mph. LOL.
Do have an ambition to do 200mph in a car at sometime though.

Just a thought, but;
1) 500+ bhp, but feels slow...
2) Around 70,000 (probably hard) miles covered...
3) Engine smokes...
Could this just be that the engine needs a freshen-up in general and THEN fine-tuning with the fuelling, etc.? A fresh set of pistons, valves, etc. made a huge difference on my old Corvette.
Maybe a short rebuild is in order if you want the car to be at potential?
The car has been very well looked after in terms of servicing, not allways booted to hell and back and am confident of engine health. Paul (ukhsv) did remap the bottom end and it was fuelled correctly to 4.5k without black smoke, the ECU refresh/auto tune put it .back to over fueling
I just spoke to a friend in central California who works on 'built' Corvettes and Mustangs for a living and he said that at 70,000 miles he would be giving a car like yours a fresh set of pistons and rings, some new valves and a head clean and tidy-up.
Then he would fine tune it on a rolling road.

Would an engine refresh also be advisable on a stock or stock+tune LS1? I've got 68k on the clock atm.
Anyone know approximate cost? Boosted_LS1, any comments?
If it was a saab 68 k would mean it's almost run in LOL so the same would apply for the lsx. A compression test would reveal all. I bought ring packs etc just to freshen up engines but to be honest don't see the point. I've never been asked to do it! The labour element makes it quite an expensive proposition, well it is the way I build engines . A crate short engine would be viable if you have a smoker with low cylinder pressures, ie under 200 psi. Or somebody could just throw it together with a torque wrench.
Boosted.
