Has anyone viewed the black supercharged CV8 in yorkshire?

Tempted to have a look but it's a 4 hour drive away!!

I think it's got to be a supercharged car If I do get one.

It does look to be a good car from the ad / pictures, and the wheels really work well with it too, I'm not normally a fan of the VXR8 style ones on a Monaro getmecoat

Seems fairly priced, however judging by the MOT history, it might need some money spent on it soon.

Yes the advisories over several years did widen my eyes a little. I do like the looks of the CV8 over the VXR versions...

Where is the best place to get parts in the UK? Specifically the suspension....?

It looks like a quite straightforward swing arm rear suspension and Macpherson strutts at the front?

Not unlike the Z3M did the suspension on over lockdown... smile

Apologies if this is your car...?

I guess a lot of advisories (and some recurring over the last few years) is a worry that it hasn't had much love.

Out of this list the brakes discs and handbrake don't worry me too much but the brake lines and bushings do.

Latest MOT

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Offside Front Steering rack gaiter damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Offside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Offside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Nearside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Nearside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material to rear (1.1.11 (c))
Offside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material to rear (1.1.11 (c))
Nearside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Offside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement centre bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement centre bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Front Service brake fluctuating, but not excessively (1.2.1 (e))

Offside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded to rear (3.6.B.2c)
Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Rear brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Rear both axle bushes have slight play
Offside Front tyre slightly perished and starting to crack on tyre tread

As some of the key points, so things like brake pipes have been corroded for 5-6 years and never addressed? Things like this then make me questions what else has been left?

It does look clean in the advert though and there is a lot to like. 4 hours away so don't want a wasted trip to be honest.

it was my car-owned it a year sold a few months ago
front n/s line is new
both front flexis are new[the nearside pipe was free enough to put a new flexi on -if you have actually worked on old cars you will know how unusual that is...

the track control arm bushes have some perishing on their outer flange-certainly there was no play at all last time i checked it
the rear and central brake pipes are old and original-i would have put them at a few years to go-they didnt have any deep pitting but that was a year ago-i didnt have any real coating on then as i had presented the car so tester could see the pipes[there are the 4 set of rear flexis with the car as i was intending to change all the brake pipes eventually simply as they are old-its only a few hours work,so nothing to worry about
brakes are typical ap-if you leave it standing the dics rust-new rangie discs and conversion kit went with car
Its a great old car in fantastic condition with all the right supporting mods-i rescued it from standing and fitted new parts as a precaution-bosch injectors,[same as removed exactly] all 8,both lambda sensors[bosch],plugs, leads, ait sensor, obvioslyoil, filter, diff oil, never got around to refreshing the clutch fluid or box oil[it has the external bleed line]
No idea why the bloke is selling it so soon,he maybe stretched himself a little to buy it-who knows...

The silver Chevy Lumina is back up for sale again on eBay, this time at a reduced price.

Purely out of curiosity, any recommendations for which insurance firms to use for such a modified vehicle?

Right, my interest in the silver Lumina is piqued slightly more than window shopping.

I haven’t managed to get in touch with any insurance companies today, but I have done a little man-maths, and excluding insurance, and assuming I sell my Jaguar XJ in the coming months, the numbers could work for buying the silver Lumina on eBay.

It’s been a while since I scratched the V8 itch, (since I got rid of my TVR). We do have a V8 Jeep, but it’s not really the same thing and the Jaguar XJ is only a V6, (abelt a peach of a V6).

I’ve always been a fan of the Holdens, especially the VT / VY / VX, (who could forget Murph’s “lap of the Gods”.

How different are these underneath from a similar vintage Omega? I know that the platform was widened to accommodate the extra size of the V8’s, but what else was different on them?

If I do buy the silver Lumina, it would be a high days and holidays car, doing probably 5000 miles or less per year.

Where abouts are these prone to rusting? How bad can the rust get? How difficult are service parts to get hold of?

If any of you chaps feel like being sensible and mature, now is probably the time to be so, before I go being immature and acting on a whim.

Thanks in advance smile

Ok, forget that about the silver Chevy Lumina on eBay.

Even on a limited mileage policy of 3000 miles per year, it’s going to cost me more to insure than the other 7 vehicles that I own combined, and that includes two vans insured for ‘carriage of goods for hire and reward’.

I really wasn’t expecting that yikes

have you been a naughty boy? Seriously I'd be shocked if that came to more than £400 on a limited miles policy. A-Plan can be dicks if you've not got previous LHD experience but I'd heard they were started to be more reasonable again

A-Plan wouldn’t even offer a quote. I don’t meet their criteria.

Late 40’s, no claims or points in over 13 years, vehicle to be kept at my home in a locked compound with CCTV in a semi-rural part of Derbyshire.

And the Commadore / Lumina is RHD as well.

It’s a good job I checked the insurance prices before contacting the seller and making a trip down South this weekend.
