Morning all,

I have an 05 registered 04 model CV8 and the steering wheel audio controls are erratic to say the least.

Very frequently if you depress the volume increase button the sound mutes, depressing the mute button changes the channel preset and depressing the volume decrease button increases the volume.

Whilst this is not the most serious problem it does cause a great deal of frustration.

The dealer I purchased the car from could not identify the problem allegedly because of the intermittent nature.

Not sure if there has been a thread posted on this topic before but in case there hasn’t any suggestions?

Hi Monaro05,

No problems with stereo controls. Only electrical type problem has been crazy speedo/rev counter which has been reported several times before.

If you haven't seen this you probably will.

It is quite amazing to go from 40 to 200 in about 2 seconds!

Not sure I have seen anyone else with this one though.

Check out the Pontiac TSB #05-08-49-003 that I posted back in July. Nobody responded so I'm not sure if Vauxhall have the same fix that Pontiac do. One would hope so.....

monaro_05: Looking at the pinouts for your Balupunkt I see that the steering remote controls only use 1 pin input on the radio. I therefore assume that the steering controls send different signals (pulse sequence) depending on the button pressed.

I've had a quick search of this forum & the ls1 forums and can't find any reported occurances of your issue.

Your issue could be due to 3 things:

1)Loose radio connector (Back of head unit)
2)Dry joint within head unit causing signal break down for the remote controls
3)Bad steering remote controls

You can check (1) yourself by removing your head unit & verifying that everything is plugged in correctly at the back of the head unit.

If they are connected correctly, then I would be looking to swap the head unit next as it's easiest to do. Hopefully Vauxhall will oblige you here, but if not I have a spare one you can borrow to prove the issue. We're both in Hampshire so hopefully we're not to far from each other. I'm just north of Basingstoke.

If you're still having problems then I would get Vauxhall to check/replace the steering controls & wiring.

Let me know how you get on.

My steering wheel controls behave the same, jumping around all over the place. I do have a new set to go on.

Occasionally I have the same problem as well. Not sure what it is though that is causing it..

On a similar vein....

Has anybody sourced an interface cable between steering wheel audio controls and various head units (mine is a Kenwood - single wire input).

Have done various searches and e-mails to audio shops in Oz, but to no avail.

Cheers
