Pedders low kit ride height

Hi all,

This is my first post but planning to continue to be active here!

I was just wondering if anyone knows the pedders low kit ride height (measured from the bottom of the rim to the bottom of the arch with 18 inch wheels)?

But my car is 595 on the front and pretty sure it isn't lowered?


Ps. Has anyone got an aftermarket wheels for sale?

He only had it for around 8 weeks. Been through all the receipts and there's nothing for a lowering kit. Have had a look underneath but the suspension on there is looking pretty tired if it is aftermarket.

I heard the low is a bit too low , but that’s your call , i put the pedders xa ones on mine , they work very well , i kept the ride height standard which was low any way , cats can still catch on the small square speed bumps any way , most other road obstacles are fine

Cheers for the reply. Is yours a VXR? Heard they are about a cm lower stock?

My VXR is running Pedders standard springs and the measurement is roughly 615mm, so seems yours is already lowered.
Remember the cars are ~18/19 years old, more than reasonable to assume its had replacement suspension and was probably 'upgraded' to low in the past, especially as Pedders are/were the common choice for these cars. Could have been years ago hence the well used condition.
I deliberately chose to stay with the standard ride height on my VXR when I replaced all the suspension.

Mine is a cv8 , and i would not go any lower , not if i won’t to preserve the cats any way

As the front suspension ages the top mounts can collapse, this will affect the ride height and might cause some confusion.
I fitted Pedders low suspension to mine and would not go any lower for day to day driving.
The springs were painted red and the struts and rear shock absorbers were all black, when the kit was new.

If it’s stock suspension , 20 years has probably sagged the springs to that ride height.
As for wheels , the choice is large , 5x120 is a popular pcd . 8.5 x 9.5 18’s is what I run

Thanks Fred. That's the conclusion I've come to regarding the suspension. Thinking about getting a coilover kit fitted.

Thanks for the info about the wheels. To get 9.5s on the back, did you have to do any arch rolling? I've heard that you need to, but maybe that's just with 19 inch wheels. Also if you know your offsets off the top of your head that would be good to know?

I think the offset was 35 , its over 5 years ago I bought them. I run 245 tyres on the back ,and Ive rolled the arches a little.

Hi,

Your suspension has probably sagged and/or collapsed. It's not great from standard. I have the pedders low kit on 18" wheels. It doesn't look ridiculous, sometimes rides harsh depending on the road surface but mostly comfortable paired with poly bushes esp the top mounts.

An easy check for collapsed top mounts, look in the engine bay and on top of the suspension strut towers are the top mount plate 'thingies'. These should sit flat down against the strut tower.

If they are sitting proud of the metal, then your top mounts have collapsed.

if so your top mounts are knackered and need replacing.

it is advisable to replace the top mount bearings at the same time.

if you know one end of a spanner from another replacing the bearings and top mounts is a home DIY job all you need is a jack some axle stands and a decent socket set and some silicon grease to generously smear over the top mounts before fitting.

MWP have them for £170, but appear to be out of stock... Might be worth phoning them to check?

I went with superpro all round on mine they're great. The top mount they have 2 options for. The comfort/oem one comes with the washers but the harder performance version doesn't. I went with the hard one and the ride is fine. If you're going to strip the whole strut anyway, superpro do a poly top dampener for them too

As I'm about to replace my suspension, I measured ride heights yesterday out of curiosity. It's a VXR on 19s, from bottom of rim to bottom of arch was 595mm at the front.

I have the Pedders Super Low on the front, so that seems about right.

I like a bit of rake and only have the Pedders Low on the back, and quite possibly have a 10mm spacer in there too, with an empty tank my rear ride height is 620mm

I think that might put it quite near to stock rear ride height to be honest, would be curious. I have 255/35s on the rear so slightly taller sidewall at the back.
