They are currently $3,400. At $1.8 to the pound thats £1,888.
Shipping based on my experience of shipping discs I'm guestimating £150 for weight and bulk.
Thats £2,038. You may get import duty and VAT, you may not.
Say put duty on thats roughly £2,480.
You may have to pay for fitting, or you you may DIY. Note these are 2nd hand.
Wortec are selling this brand new kit fitted with new fluid at £2,595 - thats fitted and VAT.
I know its not the $1,000 you bid but worth a thought?

Forgive my ignorance but are the stock brakes really that bad?
I had occasion to hit them hard in the dry the other night at about 40mph and by gum if the ABS didn't kick in and my eyeballs damn near come out of their sockets.
That says to me they are pretty good really.
Is the benefit of spending £2500 on extra brakes worth it?
Can the stock servo & master/slave cylinders cope with the (presumably) extra pressure that can be generated by 6pot racing calipers?
Dunno.

Nope. Just a routine drive on the M4 on teh Wiltshire section with the B*&&^y cameras and a quick series of sudden stops necessary.
The third time I had serious fade..quite scary. I also read that others had problems when breaking from similar speeds coming off motorways up slip roads etc.
A good (and slightly scary test)- if you have a piece of road with three or four roundabouts and sections where you can get up to 70 or so and attack the roundabouts I bet by the fourth you will go straight across it!
After my first wortec mods the I got better brakes. I am now saving for the AP kit. With nigh on 450bhp, 430lbs ft torque and a 3.91 diff I might need them!!

Remember the Monaro is one heavy car! Stoppinh 1700kg or there abouts from legalish motorway speeds is hard work.
Mods mean you will achieve those speeds much quicker shortening your breaking distance and the increasing the average speed you need to loose..quickly.
Ask the HSV boys - they get to drive standrad Monaros and get quite scared after their cars with their HSV/AP kits.
Not particulalry knowledgable about this is just what I have learnt from others on the forum over the last several month. Oh and personal experience.

Is that weight 100% corect? I thought the Monaro would have weighed in a lot more that 1700kg. The M3 weighs in at 1730kg, even though it is a convertible.
The brake kit is as follows.......
AP Racing 6 pot front calipers and 4 pot rear.
363 front cross drilled and grooved discs
342 rear cross drilled and grooved discs.
AP racing DOT 5.1 brake fluid.
Ferrodo DS2500 pads with anti squeal shims.
These are an updated road system, meaning they have the benefits of track performance, bite etc but are manufactured specifically to take the worst that uk roads can throw at them, they have dust seals on each piston in the caliper to ensure that the piston do not seize later in the life of the system, due to salt etc on our roads. The calipers are anodized and painted red, with the black AP RACING logo engraved in to them. They are treated with very high temperature coating to ensure that they dont have paint melt or flake. They have anti tamper bleed screws and a special fluid cooling routing of the brake lines around the caliper. They are extremely resiliant to any twist under load to ensure that there is no drop off in braking efficiency.
We feel they offer outstanding performance and a very reasonable price.

Fading sub standard brakes, That will be my specialist subject then :;
Have a 6.0 VXR that I have complained about ridiculous brake fade (in normal but enthusiastic driving on roads not the track) from the day I got it but got nothing more than a big 'FU' from Vauxhall!.
Thank heavens for Caspy!!. Had a go in his this week with the AP kit described above, Mine is booked in for saturday. Nuff said....

note no braided brake lines - is this part of the package? If not, isnt it a sensible upgrade if doing the rest?
The factory upgrade, which this is comparable to, does not include braided hoses. We are currently talking to a supplier to manufacture locally in order to bring the costs down. If braided hoses are requested then they can be added to the installation cost. Again, AP feel that it will not be an issue for occassional track use. Only if being used predominately as a track car do they suggest them as a necessity.
