Hi all, I have just returned to UK from OZ and am importing my VY2 Clubsport ( expected early Dec). I was wondering if anyone can offer advice regarding UK registration, any conversions reqd, where to get this done - how much? and insurance. Any info would be much appreciated.

You need to talk to Kiwihsv about the problems he's had and having with the SVA. Could be easier if you can prove you've owned it for more than 6 months though. Good luck!!

Hello...

Hoping you guys can give me a bit of advice/guidance from your "experiences" of importing vehicles to UK... I am purchasing a new VZ R8 (Black, Manual).. I plan to keep it for a year and then ship it to the UK ...

I have dual UK/Australian Citizenship but do not intend to relocate back to UK permanently.

Would really appreciate any feedback you can give me re the pros and cons of getting vehicle into UK etc etc .....!!!!

Good idea, you have to make sure you keep loads of reciepts, photos are a good idea too etc.
You can then bring in under a deal where you basically just need a MOT you will have to fit fog lights and thats about it. I think you have to keep it here at least a year too. You should have no problems shifting it on afterwards either. check out the uk dvla website on personal imports.

Be careful, as you have to own the vehicle for atleast 6 months. For me all I had to do is show rego papers with insurance, as rego alone wasn't enough apparently. You have to own the car here for 12 months, before you are allowed to sell it without paying duty and VAT.

Other than that.. go for it, and fill the boot with some spares as well.

Good luck. I am going to be doing the same thing possibly if I get a visa extension.. Ah yeah, if possible register the sucker in QLD, as you don't have to take it for the yearly checkup for rego. I still drive around on the QLD plates, and only got pulled up once, but that was to check out what it was. You can legally drive around on them for 6 months, but believe that if you do a quick trip to europe, you can start again. (ok, maybe not, but can play dumb). Great though, cause immune to speeding camera tickets, congestion charge, and parking tickets - You little beauty.

RAGGYMAN, G'day, After speaking to KIWIHSV about getting my (about to arrive)Clubby insured while still registered in Vic - he suggested I contact you as you have got this sussed already with QLD rego. Hoping you could point me to an insurance company and what I may have to provide in order to get mine insured. Will worry about rego later.
I need to drive a real car - getting a bit sick of these 2 litre starter motors they use in cars over here!!
