Well I did it today, went to see the boys at Monkfish.

I had a lovely 3 hour drive down there in what I already thought was a stunning car in standard tune (05 CV8) and had a 5 hour! (ok 2 hours spent parked up in the outside lane of the M6 in the rush 'hour') drive back in a totally different car.

Had the SportPac fitted with the Ripshifter and I still can't stop grinning. The change in performance is unbelievable especially the torque which now makes 6th gear much more flexible and the remap which was carried out by Paul from Wortec seems to have made the engine a far more refined and efficient beast.

Oh, and that exhaust...

And to anybody considering the Ripshifter - get one. It just takes driving the Monaro to the next level. Shame Holden didn't do this conversion as standard.

Just need the headers and bigger brakes now.........

I know most of you will have seen posts like this before, but until the job was actually done, I couldn't really appreciate what you were all raving about.

My wife will understand - one day

They let me hang around and watch them do the job and the advice they gave to me about the tyres (wearing already on the front after only 1000 miles), diff & gearbox oil and the lovely potential rust traps just waiting to happen in a few years time were invaluable.

They can also do you a few nice mugs of tea.

Sorry to go on, but I can't praise them enough. They really looked after me and the car and basically I'm over the f*****g moon with it.

Cheers

Paul

well done there matey!! You're now on the same sad road as the majority of us here. Believe me this modding is addictive. If only I could find my first post on this forum....it makes me laugh now.

Anyway please tell me more about these potential rust traps - as winter is approaching we all need to prepare for it. Where are they?

Another interested to hear about the potential rust traps so that preventive measures may be taken.

There are some join areas along the underside of the car and under the o/s/f wheel arch which were not correctly sealed in the factory and the gaps were fairly large.

As Roger pointed out, water will eventually get in between the joints and start corrosion. He suggested using some form of silicone sealant to seal them up.

With the car just having a 1000 miles on the clock, it was near spotless underneath so it was very easy to see these areas. Plenty of Wax-oyl underneath elsewhere, but not where it was always needed!

I might get it seen to at the begining of next year when I go for the headers and it'll be up on the ramps so it'll be easier to do than trying to do it on my drive.

I believe the car has a 6 year anti corrosion warranty, it may be better to get checked out at a dealer to ensure warranty kept in place, and obviously easier for someone else to do and pay for it!!!!

Caspy,

I completely agree with you about the warranty side of it. But knowing GM products, they have a nasty tendency to suddenly fall apart just after the thing expires and I'm not sure the dealerships will do anything about prevention unless they can see the corrosion starting.

It was mainly a suggestion that I do something sooner whilst the car is clean underneath than later when it's just out of warranty and failed an mot.

I guess Holden didn't take in to account our winters and the copious amounts of salt on the roads.

The post was intended to remind those that have concerns that they are not left alone in this matter and if they have a concern to raise a case note with the dealer. If the worst does happen, there will be a record of the initial concern and may carry weight. However, the cars have been prep'd for the UK and all the salt etc.

Good to hear that you are enjoying your mods Paul.

With regard to rust traps, yes Caspy is right, Vauxhall do offer a warranty. If you intend to keep the car for just a few years, then the protection on the car along with the warranty will suffice.

However, if you intended to keep the car long term, then i would strongly advise some sort of additional protection, mainly on the seam along the back of the sills where the floorpan is welded on. This and the box section that joins the front chassis rails to the sills, sadly, on every car i have seen has not recieved any meaningful protection of the seams, and longer term will suffer from corrosion.

The level of protection on Monaros is without doubt improved over the earlier HSV's, just that some parts have been missed.
