Message for Booster;

Do you have any problems with your wider tyres kicking up stone chips and damaging your paintwork? Our local councils in Scotland have the crazy idea of resurfacing the roads with tar and chips but never seem to sweep them up properly.

Jeff,
Haven't really noticed yet. I guess as they are wider then there is a greater chance of stone chips occuring. Monaros and HSV's seem to suffer from "sandblasting" on the wheel wells anyway. So if I were you it would be a good move to get some clear cover on there sooner rather than later.

There are a few companies that manufacture clear coverings but they are quite expensive and I didn't bother in the end. Subsequently I've had to spend nearly £250 on stone chip repairs so far Monkfish had one fitted to his UTE and I believe he is really pleased with it.

My car is more of a Sunday car now - so I get to choose which roads I drive on and when. So I can usually avoid those awful resurfaced roads.

Hope this helps.
Brian

Thanks for the advice Brian. I may keep mine as a Sunday car for the winter anyway. I'll pinch the wifes Omega as it has big mudflaps!!
Any tyre problems on the front wheels with wear? One of mine has wear on the inside due to incorrect camber. Getting it sorted next week in Edinburgh under warranty hopefully.
Jeff.

Yes. I've had to have the camber adjusted too. n/s tyre was worn on the outside. o/s tyre worn on the inside.
Wish I'd though of it as a warranty job though! Paid good money. Steering wheel is still skewed to the left slightly when driving in a straight line. How can that be after a camber adjustment?

Yes, i do have the plastic film on the front of my ute, and yes i think its great. Done almost 30,000 miles so far and its only got 2 stonechips!

I have found that pumping the front tyres upto 36psi tends to reduce the wear on the edges of the tyres. Depends on how aggressive you are at cornering, but any wide low profile tyre will suffer to some degree.

That said if it wearing on one side only or its not running in a straight line, then yes, you need to get the alignment checked, tracking camber and caster. All are adjustable on the front on these cars, though to describe the caster as adjustable is maybe stretching the term adjustable a bit far!

Jeff - good to see another Scottish based owner on here. You said you're bringing car down next week to Edinburgh to get it fixed. If you were around on the Sat (12th) theres a rolling road session being run by the Vectra Owners club at Dastek in Dalgety Bay. Myself and hopefully Dave52 are taking the Monaro's along to meet up for a chat and so he can show how much faster a modded car is :-) The Vectra boys are having a Scots v English competition and I said I'd go along and put car on rollers if it looks like we're gonna lose ;-) Total Vauxhall going to be there as well for a photoshoot so should be a fun day out.

Hi Bob,

I will probably be heading up again on Friday so I won't make Saturday but thanks for the offer. If my meeting drags on and I miss the boat I'll certainly come along. Good to hear that there are more Monaro enthusiasts in Scotland and I'll try and attend meetings etc. if I'm able. Do you ever have days out at Knockhill? I fancy trying to get a lesson on track driving sometime to know what to do if the car starts to drift etc. I nearly went for one of these days when I had the Jag but it was a touch expensive as it included an overnight and slap up meal etc. Keep in touch,

Jeff

Dave,
I always have a bucket and shammy in the boot along with some Meg's mist and wipe to keep it shiny! If it's pi**ing down though it's probably wasted! Haven't done the mobile valet service yet but it could be arranged!

Cheers, Jeff

I was gonna polish mine up this weekend but then I forgot I wanna take it out and run around the country in it. Think I may be out there at 4am getting it ready for the meet as they want to be there at 8:30am or some ridiculous hour. Just so Total Vauxhall can take everyone's photograph. I mean really - a bunch of sweaty @rsed Vectra owners aint gonna be a pretty sight at the best of times, never mind @ 8:30am. By the way if anyone else fancies a trip north next Saturday then I'm sure they'd be made very welcome and the English could do with the help :-)
