Tesco 99 RON super unleaded
Discussion
I've used it in my HSV & Saab 9-5 Aero, it appears to be just as good as Optimax, but I haven't done anything scientific such as mpg comparisons & I can't really say that it's better.
There is a Thread on this in General Gassing on the P/Head site.
I posted my concern that the Tesco petrol may not have the same content of cleaning additives as Optimax. I've often read that supermarket fuel has a lower amount of additives & asked if anyone knew for sure if this was the case. Sadly, noone has replied yet.
Autocar or Evo, can't remember which, are doing a petrol comparison test soon, hopefully they will include the Tesco 99 ron.

Often you find there are very few fuel distribution points in a country and Tesco/Murco/Texaco (for arguments sake) all buy their fuel from the same 2 or 3 depots, perhaps owned by BP or Esso or whatever. Im not sure to what extent thats the case here?
Ive always found PB ultimate to be excellent (its 98RON in Oz) and found next to no difference with the Texaco/Caltex variety. Thats in bikes or cars. My Alfa 156 was particularly fickle, as was my R1. BP is the best Ive tried so far.

The same situation in the U.K. The basic fuel is common to most if not all brands, but the additives mixed in later are different. This is what I read in the motoring press anyway.
Might be b/s, but you do often read about problems with cars that have been run soley on supermarket fuel.

Definetly Not b/s....
I used to put Tesco petrol in the Corvette but one day when I was driving along the petrol gauge just dived from 1/2 to zero, dashboard lit up saying out of fuel but the car kept going. When I filled up, just in case, it only took 1/2 a tanks worth.
Few months later, was driving along and all of a sudden cough-cough and the car died...out of fuel even though 1/2 tank on the gauge.
After much searching on the forums, it turns out that Tesco's petrol was gunking up the senders.
I put through 3 bottles of Redex Fuel system cleaner, switched to Texaco, and not had a problem since.
