Hiya guys,

As some of you maybe aware i need to sell the Monaro, alot of this is to do with house move next year but also the running costs are alot to high for me now as my job now requires me to do 250miles a week!

Now i fear i may have difficulty selling as from observation alot of cars are being listed in Autotrader and on Ebay etc for a very long period of time..

So Im contemplating part exchanging in at a vauxhall dealer.... i know theres a few of you who frequent this forum, so would it be possible to talk with any of you guys on the private? m.collinson@ottercontrols.com or 01298 762328 asking for Mike.... Thanks, id appreciate it! (any deal on a Vectra VXR perhaps?)

Publically im looking for £21K, this is for an Impulse Blue 2004 CV8 with 13000miles, £3.2K spent at Linden on 410BHP Stage II & £400 spent at Wortech on remap (is the above a right asking price?)

I ideally need to come back closer to 30mpg for my daily run...

Anyway, doing this on here first, next i will list it on Piston heads, then ebay then auto trader!

Cheers guys,

Mike

I sold mine, no problem on ebay. mine was an 05 with a wortec sport pack and 8k miles and i got £20,750.

You should be able to get £19-20k for yours as it is a year older.

Id expect over £20K at the very least, engines had of £3.5K spent on it and the mileage is pretty low!

Ah well, we will see, ive listed it on Pistonheads and will shortly wack her on ebay,

But if any vauxhall dealers bob on here and see this thread id be interested in a chat.

Sadly, most mods. are only worth a fraction of the initial cost for resale value. Otherwise cars like Pomona's would be for sale at £50k+ not the bargain £25k it's up for.
Infact mods. can be a negative thing when selling some cars.
Having said that, It's obvious that the mods. on most of the cars here are really worthwhile & desirable, with no possible detriment to the car with regard to reliablity etc. so that shouldn't be such an issue.
A friend didn't buy a new Monaro though, due only to the fact that the warranty issue was unclear with regard to mods!

Good luck with the sale Mike, I bought that car new from Drive Vauxhall in Aldershot and between Mike and myself this has been very well looked after. The mods are all sensible to ensure 100% reliability and it looks stunning in the flesh (don't all Holdens).
Someone will get a real bargain here.

good luck, if you can find the right buyer who values the mods then you should do well.

the only problem is that some dealers are now selling 04 cars for sub 20k and I even saw one 05my CV8 for £21.5k!!

Pistonheads is as good a place as anywhere or perhaps Autotrader / Top Marques.

You'd be lucky !!! A dealer will offer you about £17k I would guess.

Funny you are selling this car so soon after coming on the MLR and telling us all how this car was so great and would eat Evo's for breakfast

if you had a few quid spare you could do simliar to what I did. buy a 1.3cdti corsa and run it during the week and keep the monaro for weekends. Buying over 5 years I am putting a brand new corsa, taxing, insuring and running up around 800-1000 miles a month through heavy rush hour traffic and its costing me 230 quid a month total!!!

of course this only works coz I figured on the monaro running up at 400-450 a month in fuel to do the same journeys. now I rattle about in corsa and dont wreck the monaro sitting in traffic - stick 100 quid in fuel in monaro each month and use it at weekends on the empty roads :-)

R-jay...

Im selling it cause im moving house, something far more important to me.... Im actually getting another vauxhall, just something easier on fuel!

Thanks for the advise wells fan!

But i want a car i can run everyday, cant see the point of paying all the money on the Monaro only for it to sit on the drive!

I can accept the monaro sitting on the drive because of the stupid smile it puts on my face each weekend. Driving it during the week through the rush would not be fun and spoil the experience for me as well as destroying the car. Believe me it was a shock going into the corsa as I had previously used a 2.6 v6 vectra cdx for the commute but its worth the sacrifice to have the monaro sat on the drive.

Pretty much what I do with the Smart & Saab.

hey Mike..
Don't be suprised if R-Jay sends a mate around to discreetly buy the car for him! He's bound to want to swap his toy car for a real one sooner or later! 70,000 miles of hard driving in any turbo rice-burner (maybe except Godzilla GTR) and it's time for a change.

has R-jay got both because it 's showing a Monaro on his profile?

If you look at saving perhaps 35% on fuel over a year based on 15,000 miles.
Thats about 3000 Litres in the Monaro or say £2900. Take your 35% savings off = £1000.
So the Monaro costs maybe £1000 more a year.
Now I would certainly not like to be driving any filthy front wheel drive object for £1000 a year.
God how much is the insurance, servicing, depreciation on the smaller car going to cost? Yep there goes your £1000.
So whats the point? Either drive a Monaro properly, (ie) all the time, or give up and buy a shopping basket.

My reasons are a little different, I used my first HSV 95% of the time, doing 30000 in c.18 months. I've done 37,000 miles in my current one. Great everyday cars & although I averaged c.25mpg due to the fact that most of those miles were on the motorway, the cheap servicing costs & reliability made for good overall running costs.(not inc. depreciation)
Problem is I can't replace it with another one & I can't find an alternative that has the same combo of speed, fun, handling & practicality, cheap servicing etc. etc. at any price.
So for the time being I've decided to keep it & keep the mileage down.
Also, the Smart is massive fun to drive so I enjoy that, the Saab is great for business use with it's tiptronic/paddle Autobox (& heated seats!!).
Now when I do drive the HSV which is still at least twice a week, I appreciate it even more.
Importantly though, the HSV is not very pleasant to drive in the stop start traffic that accounts for much of my morning journey to the office, but the Smart or Saab are fine.
I'm guessing, that quite a few of us here drive other cars as well. Certainly a few other Smart owners on the forum!

I am the "proud" owner of a complete POS called a Rover 418 Estate Diesel. It sports a Turbo badge too! Goes like sh!t. But at just £500 and £150 insurance, it does have huge benefits.

1) The wife drives it and not the Ro
2) the kids go to school in it
3) Less fuel used on pointless journeys
4) Less mileage on the Ro.
5) No scratch repair bill
6) No ding repair bill
7) No wheel scuff repair bill
8) No need to wash weekly
9) No panicing as you park up in
Tesco's wondering if it will be still be there/not damaged when you get back.

It's a no brainer for me.

saving a little more than 35% on fuel costs ringram - 2 tanks of diesel a month is approx £70 - that wouldnt last me a week in the monaro sitting in 20 miles of stop start traffic both ways each day. In the 3 months or so I've had the 2 cars I've put over 3k on the clock of the corsa and around 800 on the monaro. Personally I'd rather not run up those extra miles on the monaro stuck in traffic jams so my "shopping trolley" will do fine. If its worth bugger all in 5 years then who cares - better that than another 60k miles on the monaro.
