Can anyone help identify my audio system?
Discussion
Just bought a Monaro VXR & need to upload some software from the Blaupunkt site to get it to drive my iPod. (Bit girly I know, but I do quite a few motorway miles so need it).
Can anyone tell me what make/model audio system it is so I don't blow my iPod up with the wrong software upload? Can't find any reference to it anywhere.
Thanks

I definitely have to speak to Blaupunkt now then. That model doesn't appear on their list here www.blaupunkt.co.uk/download/iPodCompatibility_list_Novermber2005.pdf
or on their search facility.
Maybe I'm doomed unless I change the system?

Think that particular model is only made for Holden. Haven't seen it in anything else.
You might find that they have an Aux in for the ones that you guys have, but I could be wrong. I replaced my head unit with a JVC MP3 dvd player. Plus have a screen in there as well, which works well. At the moment it doesn't look elegant, but not sure if I am going to do much more too it until I sell mine.

Hi hainser,
Looking at the blue plug of the IPod adaptor there is a space for it at the back of the head unit (See highlighted Blue area of label)
Unfortunately there is just 1 pin in that area (marked green). The red areas are where pins should be but aren't.
This is better seen:
It's worth checking with Blaupunkt directly whether the IPod cable/cradle will work with just this 1 pin. There seems to be a box of tricks in the middle of the cable which probably converts the IPod Protocol into the Blaupunkt Protocol. Or maybe there's an adaptor plug for this head unit.
Details from the Head Unit itself:
GM Part No: 92159488
Type: S4-SS (C)
??: 488 (No idea what this number means but it's printed very large so I assume it's important)
Details from the Manual:
Holden Part No: 92096457
Bosch/Blaupunkt Part No: 8622402490
??: 457
Google drew a blank on all Part Numbers (That's probably a first).
There are no markings to provide a 'Name' so I directly can't compare it to the IPod HCL. I did however put the models from the HCL into images.google.com and drew a blank on every one as a match to the Monaro unit.
I'm in agreement with Raggyman on this. I think the head units were specifically designed & made for Holden.
Let me know how you get on with Blaupunkt coz if there is a way to find out what that pin does it could open up a hole new research area. I see that they even do a Laptop cable which is VERY interesting......
Cheers,

Thanks guys - didn't realise it was going to be this difficult!
I have an Alpine DVD nav system in my Scoob at the moment (also drives my iPod) but I'm sure as hell that it wouldn't work in the VXR, what with the streering wheel controls & on-dash screens. Does your JVC system work with the controls in yours Raggyman?
Looking at some of the gear they have on the Blaupunkt site is quite an experience. It appears you need to plug your laptop into some of them so you can set up the 108 band graphic equaliser in real time!! (page 18 of this pdf file - www.blaupunkt.co.uk/download/Main_Catalogue_Car_Multimedia_2005-06_GB.pdf if you're interested)
Didn't get a chance to call them from work today, maybe you can let me know if your contact comes up with something tomorrow V-car?

Apparently the JVC will work with the steering wheel controls, but you need to get an adaptor from Aus.
I have a bunch of adapters here as well if anyone needs them so you don't have to hack into the harness. They are for the VX model commodore, so assume they are the same for atleast the 04 monaro, but not sure. Definitely for the ones for the Eurovox anyhow.
I haven't bothered getting the steering wheel controls for the car yet, mainly cause not sure what I am going to do with it. All very much up in the air at the moment. Don't really find that I need them with the JVC, but the JVC is an awesome piece of kit anyhow, just misses on a few things, but think there is an update coming out for it anyhow.

Your Eurovox harnesses don't fit the Blaupunkt head units M8.

Yeah.... was snowing a little bit in Portsmouth this morning when I got up... Mind you the commodore is off the road at the moment until SpeedBrake send me the right set of pads! They buggared up and sent the wrong pair. Hopefully they will turn up today so I can replace them this weekend.
