Pretty feeble when compared to some of the modified cars out there. Probably 240rwkw or there abouts. Same as a very well tuned 5.7.
Most likely underrated by HSV.

Im sure they (HSV) dont want to revisit the supercar scare.

It begs the question: How much hassle is REALLY to import one? If you do the sums, the exchange rate makes a Maloo look pretty good considering what a VXR will cost here (if your preference is for the ute). In fact, theyre a bargain when you do the conversion.

Out of interest how much does it cost a private individual to import a car ? Once import tax , vat and shipping are taken into account

Stu,
I imported my HSV Y II series Clubsport from Oz last november. If you own the car for greater than 6 months and can prove residency in country of origin for greater than 12 months prior to shipping to UK, then it is classified as a personal import and no VAT, import duties, etc apply. Only costs are shipping - about 1000 gbp, prep for SVA - about 100 gbp then SVA test and registration - about 500 gbp all up. Only restiction after import, is that you cannot sell the car for 12 months after import or VAT and duties will have to be paid.

So, I'll be interested in a trade up to the new E series Clubsport post november, could you pls beat the necessary heads into importing them soon bow

If you bring one in yourself, it isn't quite the bargain it might seem, unless you can claim personal import.

Going to be about £1500 for shipping in a container, then import duty on the combined total of the invoice value of the vehicle and cost of shipping. Import duty is 10% on a car, 22% on a commercial - ie a ute!

Once you have been fleeced for duty, Gordon adds a further 17.5% VAT on to the combined total of the previous figure.

Ie

Ute (Maloo), lets say: £22,000
Shipping: £1500

Duty on above (22%) £5170

Total of above: £28670

Vat on total: £5017

Total bill is: £33687

So the taxman takes a total of £10187 for the privelege of allowing you to import your ute. And you still have SVA to deal with. Also port handling charges are good - ive no idea how they work them out, random number generator i think!

Autocar, pages 14 & 15. Red E-Series GTS.
I'm still not sure if I really like it. It does look a bit Focus ST/Astra VXR ish. Probably will look better in real life though. Imo it isn't in the same league as the Ian Callum penned VT & VX.
Having said that, I'd still consider buying one as I love fast saloons & the German ones are always going to be a bit too civilised & sterile for me in comparison with an HSV, which are stil real muscle cars.

Does Autocar give any idea if this will be imported to the UK?

Yep, good to see Autocar giving it coverage. They're still claiming it'll be called the Monaro VXR over here though. To me, they should keep the Monaro nametag for the next coupe (it appears it will happen, afterall, but not until the wagons and utes have made production).

I've posted this before, yes there will be a VE Coupe, prob late '07 or '08, I have seen it in clay mockup @ Holden.

Sorry chap, must have missed that. I'm glad they've got as far as clay mock-ups. Can you spill the beans? How different from the 4-door is it? I'm guessing the front end will be pretty much the same as the new VE.

The mockup I saw (about 18 months ago now) was very similar in looks to the pics of the Camaro seen here recently. Sorry, don't have any details of powertrain - bit hard to tell from a lump of clay

That'd be cool. I love the current shape, but it is a bit of a "2 door saloon" whereas the new Camaro is a great stand-alone coupe shape.

Either way, I can't wait

I think it might struggle to find many homes at £40k....

i think a base v8 version at 30k and a hsv at 35k would suit the market

a limited ed run of say 200 cars would be the alternative
