I have a few questions for you guys....

Where in the uk sells and services the HSV's?

Do they have corvette engines?

What's the reliabilty like?

Who in the uk (south east?) tunes them up for more poke?

They use the LS1 engine but it's not the vette version so it makes less power. You can fit an ls6 intake manifold plus change the cam if you like. Also for tweaking the ecu you can use ls1 Edit or in oz they have cracked the ecu so could provide exchange units or chips. I have ls1/6 engine parts here.

Just had a look on your website - very impressive motors! Do you have much work in the way of converting TVR's?

I have a chimera due in a few weeks to see if it can be done. The owner & I are pretty confident otherwise we wouldn't be removing the rover lump. There seems to be enough space and maybe the t56 6 speed will fit as well. If not I will hook it up to a t5. I will be posting pics on my site once it's underway. The engine will be based on the corvette version of the engine but with an uprated cam and a few tweaks. We're looking for a reliable 400 bhp plus which shouldn't be difficult given the suitability of the engine in the first place.

HSV's supplied in the UK use two different motors:-

The GTS uses a 340bhp F-body LS1 which is almost identical to the motor used in US-spec Camaros. There are some minor changes to several parts of the engine including the inlet manifold, ecu and cam.

The GTS-R has Callaway C4B modified engine which runs different cams, management and a host of other tweaks in order to yield around 400bhp. Callaway do a lot of tuning work with Corvettes and this motor is a popular upgrade for older C5 vettes.

There are a few supercharged GTS cars on the road with output claims around 500-550bhp - these are fitted with a supercharger kit supplied by www.capa.com.au - Linden Special Vehicles are an agent for capa in this country.

If you look on the Australian forums www.ls1.com.au then you will find lots of people with experience supercharging LS1 engines in Holdens - there are a few mega power turbo installation but these tend to be show cars rather than daily drivers.

There are still few people around in the UK with experience modifying LS1 engines - they are used in the ASCAR racers with relatively minor modifications (cam, ecu, loom, rockers, rod bolts and a dry sump) - even though these engines are built to a controlled spec, race engines pass through engine builders on a regular basis for maintenance which has built up the local knowledge.

Here in New Zealand the Holden Monaro GTS uses GM's LS1 engine but provides 300kw (400 hp) standard, off the showroom floor power. The GTO version is 255kw (345 hp).
