Does anyone know whether new VXR8 would pass Euro IV emission compliance? Where can I find information about this? I have been searching for this information for a few days with no luck. I would like to ensure it will pass the compliance before having one shipped to Hong Kong for road registeration. Thanks for your help in advance.

It's hard to say since it won't get type approval in Europe. However the engine is legal in California so must be pretty damn clean so the answer is "probably".

I`m assuming that you intend to purchase from a UK dealer, if so why not make it a condition of sale that the vehicle complies, if not then they won`t be able to offer it to you.
Just a thought.

Apparently, in UK all car registered after 1st Jan, 2007 must comply to Euro IV emission standard.

www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/eurostandard_help.asp

But I would like to make so sure VXR8 will make it.

Can you not import direct from HSV Australia, would that require different regulations?

True with full volume compliance but to my knowledge not with low volume.

As far as I know, yes. It will not get european type approval and does not need it as the volumes are below the threshold (which is around 500 units per year I think).

I'm not sure why the person above says it definitely won't pass Euro IV. Obviously California have different criteria but AFAIK they Cali regs are the strictest in the world.

What are the rules in HK? Must even a personal import comply with such standards?

The chances are that you won't be able to get an answer because it'll never officially ever have Euro IV compliance even if it's clean enough. What if you import a car from a territory that's never heard of Euro IV? I'm pretty sure Australia's standards are in-line with Europe so the chances are that it passes the Australian equivalent of Euro IV.

The news from HSV Australia is that the 2007 HSV GTS is Euro III compliant but they are testing for Euro IV standard now. Therefore, I wonder they are testing for the Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK? Anyway, I will keep trying to dig out the figures.

Unfortunately, The Hong Kong motoring authority is pretty stubbon. Euro IV car only! Nothing else unless it is 15 years or older.

Oh well! You never know it might pass Euro IV with no problem.

As for the UK, AFAIK there's no restriction saying you can't import a car unless it complies with a certain emissions standard. It also does not need type approval or crash testing etc if the volumes are below about 500/year. That's how TVR got/get away with it.

The best I could do is to keep digging until I found something. I will certainly post the result here!

Only partly correct. New models after July 1 2008 need to comply with euro4 emissions and all vehicles after July 1 2010. As long as the model is still called VE then they won't need to comply with this regulation until 2010.
Sorry about the bad news
