LS1 was dropped because it would not pass new Oz standards hence new L76 and L98 engines in the Holdens. I posted recent comments stating that HSV will be using the new LS3 engine with similar/same heads as L98 with large intake valves which will pass the new Oz standards, likely equivalent to euro4. There are a few threads regarding this on ls1.com.au

So HKG I would wait a while I think you might see a new engine arriving at some stage soon.

LS1 would have passed the euro3 standards fine. I think you'll find they wanted to increase the capacity and the L76 was obvious choice.

"The new engine, codenamed L76, will arrive next month in preparation for stricter emissions regulations that come into force for all new cars sold from January 1 next year.
Drive understands the existing 5.7-litre V8 engine, codenamed LS1 but also known as the Gen III, does not meet the new Euro 3 emissions regulations."

I know I shouldnt believe everything I read, but Ive seen it mentioned in a few places. Probably didnt help that LS1 was dead either..
