I sold my 122 for 4.5k fitted and mapped by Rapid. Mark or Roger might know of somebody looking to sell.

Yeah your calc sounds correct. In the US they say overlap should be zero at 0.050 to pass californian emissions. Which are similar to UK.
Gareth's passed with 0* overlap in his 224/232-114 if you are lucky he will have his emissions test sheet around and can confirm that the monaro would pass with similar cam.

I would anticipate head design and specifically valve size would have an effect. But cats should help more.
Roger has a cam he knows passes. But Im pretty sure its smaller than the one Gareth has.

There is a 219/227-112 LSR Comp cam which works out at -1* overlap. That would be the biggest Id go in an LS1. Should be good right from idle. If you are spending up to £6k I think you will get very close with some good heads to 415rwhp. Thats 30rwhp off what I had with cheapo heads and a smaller lower lift cam.

HYDRAULIC ROLLER-Excellent torque
with a very broad power band.
Great for street performance
and drivability.
Hyd. Hyd. 1500 to 6700 54-456-11 269Lr HR12 269 277 219 227 .607 .614 112°

Id put money on 415rwhp from an LS1 with an emissions capable cam maybe the LSR above and the right heads. Mast do some LS3 type heads for an LS1 bore. Stack an LS3 intake on top and there you go I recon. There are a few estimates in there, so no guarantee's, but like I say Id put money on it. The Mast heads flow about 50% more air than the LS1 heads.

If you dont like estimates and want guarantee's then a centri with a cam will do it easy without needing too much boost (and therefore intake temp heat)

Would you get all that lot for £6k fitted?

Think Well Fans has a 112
And Picadors took in VXRPhantoms 122 as well, so they may have one.

I'd put money into suspension before touching the engine.

Getting round a corner quicker means you don't have to accelerate so hard through the straights, or brake so hard before entering the corners.

Anything over 150bhp is a waste, if you can't lay the power down, or hang on to the speed that you build.

which is why i focused on bushes and coilovers. Pointless really having the power unless you can use it.

Maybe. Probably $4500 USD for all the bits. So £3k then fitting etc. Id say so. Should be some change even.. Enough for suspension smile

ARAF, totally agree, mine has been almost fully Pedderised by Monkfish. Just the ARBs to go.

Ringram, thanks for that.

Basically I would want to go as far as I can with a cam. You mention the 219/227-112 LSR Comp cam. How would that compare with something like this:-

You may want to consider my LS1 forged pistons for sale in the classifieds. Less than half price and less than 1000 miles.

Mega cam. Too big for LS1 unless you want a race cam IMO. Deffo fail emissions with that one.

Mine wasn't too bad TBH. Will gladly pass on the info etc if you want to email me. I have the cam specs and where to get all the parts. Also if anyone is interested I have enough spare Vortech/Capa bits to replicate my set up with the exception of the intercooler, but I can point anyone in the right direction for that.

Incidentally what does this mean?

Yeah thats the cam I posted above. Basically the suggested engine size is 4.8 to 5.3 but it will work fine. Just goes to show its not a large cam! Those heads you will need 2 of. They are ok, but not the best you can get.

IMHO The cheapest way to get lots of upgrades is to sell your standard car and then buy one that's had lots of attention. I've spent best part of £20K on my car (turbos, exhaust, coilovers, poly-bushes, quick rack, rip shifter, etc) and reckon its added very little to the second-hand value. There's a well modified twin-turbo VXR out there at the moment for £15750, which was apparently the cost of the conversion (so the car comes free).

I have those heads and let me tell you there's nothing wrong with them. They work really well on the LS1.

daves ute is a std 5.7 with a comp cam and a 122 it does 513 at the wheels and was one of the quickest cars at thunder road, no fancy build just a cam and blower two days work and very fast. as for running out of revs at 5000,that thing revs to 6500 where it is on the limiter but still makes power right up to it.
