Tests are starting to come through now. Auto Express pitted it against the Rover 75 V8 and surprisingly chose the Rover which they said was sharper handling and which "on a twisty road, the Monaro wouldn't see which way it went". Criticised brakes, steering and gearbox and concluded it was a lazy cruiser although they still liked it, don't get me wrong. Acceleration was closer than you might think with 60 being hit in 6.0 by the Monaro and 6.3 in the Rover. The Monaro posted better in-gear times.

They made the same point already made here that Vauxhall have done little to integrate the model into their range. Again, raising the badge issue, reading the test raised the same doubts about that name every time they referred to "the Vauxhall". Even "the MG" sounded better from a historical heritage point of view. Brief bit on the forthcoming VXR version but not much.

Meanwhile Motor Trend tested the 350bhp GTO and ran a 13.8 quarter mile at 101mph. Bit slower than the last time they tested it I think. They were testing it against the AMG55 Merc trying to make the point that it cost half as much. I think any Merc buyer would say "so what". Needless to say the Merc was quicker.

Also in Motor Trend was a brief test of the Chrysler 300C which did the quarter in 14.1. They were a little less complimentary about this beast and said it always feels huge but ended on an upbeat note about proper American muscle cars as you might guess. However, they showed a pic of the Magnum (the Estate version) and they've changed the nose on that to look like something truly horrendous - difficult given that the 300C is no oil painting to start with.

You can order all your Holden Badges for your V-Monaros from DRIVE VAUXHALL Leamington Spa up here in the Midlands there phone number is 01926 420861, I have arranged there in the parts department that they now have the full list of Holden Badges through there GM computer Network, I must say this is only available through this dealer,no other dealer as this downloaded on the internal network, if you have any problems ring me on 07717 291016 and ask for Skippy! ;-) no worries

...or the heresy.

Still, it Lumina-tes the darkness. I was mildly tempted by a Chevy Lumina SS on Auto Trader about a year ago for £22k but then realised it was far too practical. LOL.
