[quote=workshy fopp]Well finally got round to looking at the silver one at Seafield. I'll just paste what I posted on a similar thread on Scoobynet.

"Had a test drive in a standard Monaro today. Nice big comfy cruiser, lovely seats, excellent suspension, good to drive. What's wrong with it? Doesn't feel that fast, not like an M5 does. Build quality outside was nothing short of shocking for any car, let alone a near £29k car. Some really poorly aligned panels, several gaps were out by 2 or 3mm, bad paint under the bonnet, boot etc. some rust coming through the paint under the bonnet Maybe a result of being on a boat from Aus for 3 months.
I liked it overall, but it needs tuning/more power and the VXR is too expensive, and that build quality put me right off. Pointed out all the above to dealer and said I would have rejected the car they showed me if it turned up like that. He didn't really have an answer. I wanted to like this car, and I do, but can't spend that kind of money on such poor quality"

I don't want to p1ss on anyone's chips here as it's a bloody great car, different to anything on the road. I would have ordered if it wasn't for the above issues. That and the derisory trade in offer for my existing car. Hopefully that one at Seafield is a one-off. If it wasn't a brand new car I'd have said it had been in a shunt and badly repaired.

A few points I would like to answer re; the above post.
A standard Monaro won't feel fast"like an M5"

As it's 70 BHP down and probably weighs about the same.To throw the same thing back when I was looking to change my work car I drove a 2003 5 door WRX and having put my foot to the floor asked the salesman what difference the PPP pack would make to which he replied "this has it Sir" Now I know they are quick but it didn't feel it.

"Build quality was shocking especially for a £29K car".
In my own ownership experience nothing could be further from the truth, and in any case it's horses for courses, if you want to spend £29K on build quality buy a Merc 220 diesel,if you want to spend it totally on performance buy a 2nd hand Ultima, the Monaro probably isn't a bad compromise . Touch-wood the build quality on mine has been fine with no probs in the two nad a half years I've had it.

No offence in any of this, like football cars are all about opinions and perceptions.

It take the point that performance is relative, but not the build quality point. As I said, I would have rejected THAT car. Whether it is a £10k Astra or a £29k Monaro, there's no excuse for panels being out not only vertically, but actually sticking out from the car. The rust spots coming through the paint was also a nice touch.

I hope this is a one off !!!

But if you a getting a Monaro make sure it is spot on before you accept it, as we don't want any bad cars on the road.

I have seen 3 Monaro's and 1 VXR and they did look spot on but you have been warned!

G'Day Guys,
You talk about panels out of align, well I have heard that there is one Monaro some where in London that has a few panels out of alignment now that some one stacked it during a test run last week.

To all you Poms, please don't wreck any more Monaro's as they are in limited numbers.

Catch ya,
Rob.
