Need some advice/help.
Currently have standard hifi install in my car, just 2 speakers mounted on rear panel. When luggage cover is in use it muffles the sound, so looking for a fix. Not particularly impressed by standard factory upgrade of mounting a pair of front speakers on doors (look to intrude into cabin space too much IMO).
Anybody out there done anything different such as tweeters on dash,bigger/replacement speakers in rear panel, Fitment of external amps and if so where have you fitted it???

Yep,

Replaced rears with Infinity Reference speakers, and replaced head-unit with JVC LHX501E which not only sounds much better, but looks fantastic too!!
(Brushed Aluminium finish and touch screen display.. )

Nice unit. Can I ask where you got it from? I tried searching but all the sites that came up were in Russian.

Oh no, its started already! They're taking over!

mjc - any pics?

I took my car to an ICE specialist in town who had a good look around the interior and declared they couldn't put speakers up front without rebuilding the front lower door cards/panels. They said they would need a flat, enclosed area to install the front speakers on. The price to do this for both doors was frightening. So unless you have the front speaker upgrade from the factory I think it's going to be a 'mare getting a T350 ICE'd up properly.

Targa, have a look at this post www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=102740&f=7&h=0&hw=speakers+for+a+tamora

Someone did manage to fit tweeters to the front on their Tamora (same as T350), I may do the same too, could the piccies be put up again, as I can't seem to get them now (for the front tweeters)

I have stuck some tweeters to the underside of the lower dash as a temporary measure. They help a little.

Yep, after trawling through the web and getting the price down to £250, I actually went into halfords (looking for something else) on a "double discount" day or something, and walked away with it for £239 !!

I'll try and take some pics tonight if you like...?

Is there anywhere I can read specs? Particularly, I need to know if it has AUX inputs and if they're regular phono sockets?

Pictures would be cool.

Try here:

www.jvcmobile.co.uk/prod_detail.asp?action=&prod_area=mobile&prod_id=40&sub_cat_id=1

I asked this in the shop, and was told it did, but it actually doesnt.... (well, not exactly..) it does have a special square plug thingy for Aux input, and it does support both a DAB tuner and a CD changer (with appropriate on screen menu's.... I do think though (and this is only a guess..) that the other end of the special square plug thingy might have normal phono sockets on it to enable you to plug whatever you want in....

Oh, and it has regular phono sockets for the pre-outs..

Heres the Pics!

NB - The face-plate is at a slight angle so it doesnt look as good a match to the dash in the picture as it does in real life due to the light catching it in a different way..(there are four angle setting - you can also just have it flat with the dash..)

Also, you can set the screen display to virtually any colour you want - I've set mine to compliment the interior during the day, and match the dash display colour at nights..

Chris, the <a href="http://www.tvrcars.biz">www.tvrcars.biz</a> site isn't available any more but you can see most of the content from that site by going to http://web.archive.org/ and entering www.tvrcars.biz into the search field.

I've got the TS-T23 front tweeters (£58) and planning to fit this weekend as long as the Pioneer head unit removal keys I ordered arrive on time. They fit into the dash corners very nicely without drilling any holes, will post some details and pics when I'm done.

I'm not sure if cross-overs are needed or not but as the tweeter specs exceed the ohms and wattage output for the head unit I can't see they'll get damaged by being directly connected to the fronts.

Don

Thanks Ffirg , was it you who originally post the pics of the tweeters in the dash of your Tam?
Have tried the links, but they dont seem to be working, you couldn't email me a JPEG of those tweeters could you?, as I plan to fit them today, (I am NOT paying a Car Audio shop over £300 to fit my SatNav and put my tweeters in, what a rip off!!!

Looks sweet. What's it like in operation? I'm quite attracted to the touch-screen thing but is it a pain to operate when you're driving?

Chris, just edited my earlier post because the web archive URL gets messed up by the forum formatting - hopefully that makes sense now. If you still can't see the pics of the tweeters fitted in the dash drop me a PM and I'll send them to you.

I haven't actually fitted mine yet, just played around with the positioning. Are you planning on wiring directly to the front outpuits also?

Nope, I actually find it much easier and more intuitive that the origonal head unit - can't really fault it so far!

Ffirg 005, you should install cross-overs. I had TS-T23s directly connected to my head unit. No problems for 9 months, then someone mentioned Xovers and I thought - what are they ? Following week I blew one of my speakers (roof off, 80 mph, AC/DC LOUD). So I guess it might depend upon your music tastes.

I now have TS-S15s which come with Xovers and they have been fine. Consider a swap if you can..
