Window wipers not working - help
Discussion
Hi - I was on my way to Manchester the other day when my window wipers stopped wiping. I could still hear the timer clicking for the wipers to move, but they didn't move. They seem to work intermittently but not sure if it's something that's loose. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix? I'm planning a long drive tomorrow so hoping I can get it sorted. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not too technical but I've had issues with the wipers on my T350 too, so here goes.
It's likely that the wiper motor has got water in it. It's under the bonnet on the drivers side. Basically (with my limited understanding!) once opened up it consists of three circles of metal which indicate intermitent, normal and high settings for wiper speed. It's packed with grease to protect it from water but this wasn't working. I cleaned up the contacts, dried up all the water and repacked with grease and this seemed to do the job. When you remove the wiper arm rememeber to mark the position so you can line it back up again.
My Sagaris manual says relay R42, brown fuse, centre position, one row up from the bottom is the wiper delay relay if that helps. M0227 type. Unfortunately that appears to be the only one of that type so you can't swap it over with another to check, unless you know better?
Also fuse 24 (wiper motor and washers). Along the long row of fuses, with the first fuse on the long row being number 16. It's a 20amp fuse.
Just in case you are as new to me to TVR the fuse board is in the drivers footwell for easy access
I hope some of that helped.

Thought I'd use this thread as x100tus was the last owner of my car and hoping he spots this and there was a solution.
I was going to use the T350 on Sunday for our regional meeting even though it was raining, started up no problem, pulled out the garage and went to set off clearing the screen with the wipers which worked fine.
I got about 50 meters and tried the wipers again and they wouldn't work so turned around and headed back to my garage.
Quick look at the book which says fuse 24(yellow 20 ) for the wipers and on inspection it had indeed blown. Replaced the fuse and the wipers worked for about 2 goes and blown again so gave up and used the Chimaera.
Some of the lads seemed to think along the same lines as NWTony in that the wiper motor may be on the way out or cleaning may do the job.
Is this the thing to try first ? Any ideas, solutions much appreciated.

Had a similar fuse blowing problem. Turned out to be a sticky wiper motor spindle shaft bearing. Dribbled a little oil down the shaft which helped on one occasion, and stripped/ cleaned unit on another. I believe the problem is water runs through the hole in the motor mounting plate and into the spindle bearing. I now have a bead of silicon between the three mottor mounting bolt heads which deflects most of the water (from the screen) from going down the hole and on to the wiper motor spindle.

Friend of mine Trevor (hollychim) kindly came over today to have a look and now has it all working.
I also noticed that the head beam flash was also not working for flash, but it worked as main beam. ( same fuse does both)
First he tried another new fuse and the wipers worked 2/3 times and then the fuse blew so then looked at the wiper rods. Undid the bolt and squirted a maintenance lubricant down the hole which produced a brown/black oil based liquid. Spayed and wiped several times and then did the same on the other rod.
Rods still disconnected put another fuse in and tried head beam flash first and it worked multiple times so then turned wipers on(Rods still off)and it was turning nicely and fuse didn't blow.
Left the wipers turned on and sprayed and cleaned the turning spindle several times and then connected it all back up.Lifted the wipers off the screen at first and all was good so then put the wipers down and all is working.
Trev if you see this..... Thanks a lot mate
