If anyone would like a bit of amusement re TVR Dean, he recently bought a damaged S1 Elise that had done 319,000 miles. Poor chap mustn't be too hot with numbers as he tried to sell the car on stating the mileage was 31,900. He also declared it as Cat D, not the reality that it was a Cat C. Naughty naughty.
Mistakes, or deliberate ???Do his pants regularly spontaneously combust ??

Bit of a thread resurrection here, but I'm absolutely staggered by this tale of woe and can't believe I won't get to read the end!
Originally it seemed to me that the most obvious (and illegal) explanation was that TVR Dean had bought a Category B car and were trying to sell it as a Category C - that would tie with what the insurers told D1ckie about his car being classified Cat. B and with what MJK 24 said about TVR Dean reclassifying a different Cat. C as a Cat. D, and it's easier to believe that it's all one party's fault rather than two. However, since the insurance company have admitted that they reclassified the car as Category C before it was sold to TVR Dean, that's obviously not what actually happened.
That means we have three questions:

However, since the insurance company have admitted that they reclassified the car as Category C before it was sold to TVR Dean, that's obviously not what actually happened.
That means we have three questions:
- Why was the car reclassified from Category B to Category C? If the reclassification had been from C to B I could understand - the insurers think the car's OK, but the person that buys it thinks it's dangerous and sends it back, so the insurers have to change their minds. But going from a B to a C? That means someone decided not to err on the side of caution, and the only reason for that is financial. Doesn't make the insurers look good.
- Why wasn't D1ckie informed when the car was reclassified Category C? That reclassification give D1ckie the right to accept a lesser settlement and keep his car, which was in the insurer's interest (giving him less money) as well as D1ckie's (keeping his car). There's no way that a dealer who didn't know if the car was previously a minter or a munter would pay more for it than the original owner. Judging by the way that everyone thinks it was worth a lot more than the £8k that TVR Dean paid, the insurers seriously lost out by not telling D1ckie about the reclassification. Did they just not want to trouble D1ckie? Or does someone in the insurer's office owe TVR Dean a favour or something?
- Why hasn't TVR Dean replaced the keyboard on the office computer? That broken CAPSLOCK key makes B19LAM look a right cock.
What is happening with this? As I am thinking about making Tvrdean a serious offer for the car I see he now has all the parts to fix it for 3k. I’ve never heard of an insurance company changing the class after agreement has been made with the owner, if this does/or is going through a legal process could a independent or I have heard vosa can be called in to inspect a car if differences have occurred to make sure the category has been deemed right ? so could I end up buying a cat B toffee or is it defiantly a cat c and nothing to worry about i.e it can not be changed again ?

I wouldn't if I were you till this is cleared up..Sorry for lack of information
I'm away at present, but received an email yesterday from the insurers offering me a further settlement on the vehicle but they have yet to respond to my concerns over the change of category which is my main issue.
It appears my next step is to complain to the insurance body to complain. They seem to think it was acceptable to re-catagorise the car after my settlement.
Will post full details next week when I am back
