As the title suggests, the boot release on my Tamora has stopped working, and while this normally wouldn't be a big issue I'm currently touring round Spain!

Yesterday morning went to the car and although everything else worked the boot release was dead, luckily had suitable tools in the cabin so I could use the 'secret' entry technique. Stopped for petrol 30 mins later and it was fine again! Continued to be fine for the rest of the day but then this morning, it made noises like it was trying to release but no luck, then followed by no noises and resorting to the secret approach!

It's the intermittent nature that's most confusing, but if anyone has any suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated.

On the plus side it's no show stopper and the roads over here are fantastic!

hmmm secret method....

my tam is in bits at the moment, with all the electrics disconnected, so had carefully left the boot open...till i forgot this morning and closed it...

now i cant open it without connecting a bunch of wiring again.

can someone pm me the alternative method?

in response to the original post, check all the harness connectors, i've come across a few issues with tvr looms, main culprit is nearly always loose crimping or loose connectors

There is a fuse for the boot solenoid - sorry can't say fuse-number at the moment. I think it was combined with other electric functions (boot-light ?)
Maybe there was a contact problem and now went.

i had this on my tam , two things were causing this intermittent fault. First was loose bracket and switch plate second was boot badge switch was badly worn and not always making contact. I suggest short term tighten all screws and as above check fuse holder. Second spray exterior switch with wd40 etc to help.
Take the badge off and clean up contacts if u get time. enjoy your trip

I had the same issue with my T350c ages ago and a strip of the boot badge switch assembly and the metal connection part inside had come loose, I had found other people had put a 2p coin in to make the connection but I didn't need to.

The button that actuates the boot solenoid under the badge plinth is domed. If the retaining nuts are too tight/loose it won't work properly if it moves - it might be knackered but its easy to check just don't drop your nuts when you undo the plinth!

Yes, shared with the cig lighter. Learn the fuse position and carry a spare in the car - it's no fun not being able to get in the boot when you need a shot of the old Arab juice and you are miles from home and your fuses and fuse box layout is in the boot!

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. It's definately not a Fuse problem and a quick spray with wd40 didn't help. I'll cope with my workaround for the next week until i get back and can strip it all back.

I had the same problem with the boot on my Tuscan, not sure if they're the same mechanism though.

It turned out to be the boot pushing up too much and preventing the latch releasing. Easy to see if this is what the issue is by putting some weight on the boot lid as you try and release. HTH

Started having a play at the weekend and I've confirmed it's not the boot switch so I'm guessing it's a solenoid failure.

Now I might be being an idiot but how the hell do I get the solenoid out? Do I need to unscrew the boot catch and the whole mechanism should come out?

It might be a door ECU issue. The passenger door ECU situated in the passenger foot-well controls the boot release mechanism as well as the passenger door.

A few years late but it is "fuse 11". Or the fifth counting from left in the right-left bank of fuses. It also does bootlamp / courtesy lamp and its boot solenoid function is conveniently not labelled in the manual!
