Come on guys! I'm not lucky enough to own a Tam (only got a Chim4), but I do like reading your guys stories. Where are you all?

I want to know some vital statistics of the Tamora. TVR site still claims tbd for some of the more juicy info, so please complete where necessary:

1) BHP
2) 0-60mph
3) 0-100mph
4) Should I be saving up for one?

Nice, but 4.4s to 60 doesn't sound that much faster than a 4L Chim (4.8 is I remember correctly).

A lot of people are raving about how much faster it is. Does it have much better spread of power or something? What so fantastic (apart from the looks, style, sound and it's a TVR!)

It's the way the power keeps piling in all the way to 7500rpm, goes absolutely banannas over 4000 by which time the V8's are asthmatic. I guess?
Never owned a chim but driven all three and the Tamora feels quicker than all apart from the 5.0 which has the most incredible wall of torque. Very different experience though, everything feels so much sharper - handling/steering/brakes/noise. You need to take the Tamora by the scruff of the neck to get your kicks but you can drive a bit lazier in the chims. I'm mumbling now, take a test drive and you'll see

I would use the 0 - 100 mph or standing 1/4 mile times as a mark of performance 0-60 times are so influenced by state of tyres driver skill, how sticky the road is etc

Chimaera owner too, albeit thinking of Tamora or Tuscan upgrade. Bit disappointed in the Track Performance of the Tam as reported in this month's Evo though...
...any thoughts guys?

compared to the chim, yes, but the S6 engine is very user-friendly for cruisin' apart from exhaust resonance around 2500-3000 rpm (which we're working on!). Pulls nicely from 1500 in fifth if you need it to. Personally just love the the brutal but cute looks, and the inside is fantastic.

yeah this was talked about on another thread (nubbin, u there?). the car was designed for 16" wheels but we've all gone for 18's for looks. The only mod for this is extra wheel arch clearance, ie as far as we know there's no chassis retuning. I'm no expert but could be that increasing the tyrewall:suspension stiffness ratio is causing the twitchiness? Personally I find the handling extremely confidence-inspiring and controllable on 18's, reminds me of my old Imprezza but far quicker/sharper. Very subjective I guess

BOO!

Just finished a surgery, so I thought I'd call in.

I swapped a 4.0l Chimaera (0-60 5.2) for the Tamora. There is no comparison - the Chimaera puts a smile on your face because of all the TVR and V8 virtues - the Tamora puts a smile on your face because the corners of your mouth are dragged backwards by sheer accelerative force! (As well as the usual TVR virtues).

The 18" wheels are a bit different, (and don't need any wheel arch modification) in that they give a less compliant ride, better grip, and look awesome. Turn-in and overall handling is better on the 16's, but I don't know what the hell they were on about in EVO - the handling is very sharp and focussed on 18's, not overall as good as 16's.

The scariness, intimidation, old-fashioned -ness of the Tamora? Bollocks!! It's a pussy cat most of the time, and any motoring journo should have more than enough skill to exploit it without getting brown pants. I know they are talking about trackday cars, but I reckon they need a scapegoat or two in comparative tests, and it was the Tamora's turn this time. Having said all that, I've never used it on a track, and I would fit the 16's to do so, because I've got £1000 worth of wheels and tyres sitting in my garage, waiting to be worn out!!

it's in the latest Evo mag. Their website is www.evo.co.uk but I haven't checked to see if the article is there.

On the magazine they are giving away a CD which contains vids of the various cars. The Tamora's diving under heavy braking is alarming.

In the article in Evo, they stuck special sticky tires on half of the car's. The Elise was 3 seconds quicker on the sticky tires, would have been slower than the Tamora otherwise. They reckon it was a great laugh powersliding it around the track though, can't wait for my first trackday sometime this summer :-)

I reckon the evo car must have been a dog, because mine is fantastic round the corners. I will be doing some track days very soon, so will let you know what it's like. But compared to my Griff and Cerbera, there is no comparison. This is the best handling sportscar I have ever driven barring the Noble M12, and I have driven almost everything you can care to mention....

I have to confess that i'm reading your threads cos the Noble board is v quiet as usual

I'll be taking my M12 on a few track days over the coming months and wondered whether any of you would be at Silverstone on the 31st or had any other track days lined up so that i can check out the Tam ?

I had a Chim 450 up until about 6 months ago and think i'm gonna need another "wind in the hair" car by next summer . By the sounds of you guys the Tamora might fit the bill !

I am thinking of doinr the Silverstone evening thing too. I live in Northants and would love to meet up sometime. Drove the M12 last year and was mightily impressed. Just think it's a wee bit too expensive... but may be tempted next time...
