flash,
so its staying now then?? does that mean it will be making the trip to the dordogne later in the year??

No, we will be taking the SLK to France. Air con, electric roof, and the fact that Mr's Flasher drives it aswell (she wont drive the Tamora) means that will be our "steed" in France.... Plus I want to limit the milage on the Tammy....

Here's an option you may not be aware of ... though you may not want to be!
You might have noticed an increase in the number of 4x4's Ute's about. You know, the double cab flat bed truck things. There is a reason for this - tax efficiency. These are classed as commercial vehicles, and as such the VAT is reclaimable on the purchase, and also there is a flat rate personal tax liability of £500 for use as a company car.
This is a rather large loophole in company car taxation, which will probably be closed at some point, but at the moment it is an opportunity to get one over on the IR, and to my mind that makes one of these more attractive than a TDi (which the tax man will tax at a premium reducing the benefit of TDi economy).
Glad to see you're hanging on to the TVR though! Next time you come over all sensible you know where the keys are, get out there and get over it!

For gawd's sake, don't call it a Tammy (!)
But much more interesting - o'seas villas - why Cyprus (cost ?)
Been researching France for about a decade now (just to coincide with the arse and his brother dropping out the Stk Market - ho-hum) and couldn't think of anything more conveniant/travellable/relatively affordable/rentable than Dordogne and periphery.

Or are you just plain daft??? – Flasher, I’m supposed to just take that?? It’s okay for you for get numpty/terse but I reply and I’m throwing my toys around??…… I never had, nor do I have, any intention of making you out to be a hypocrite – far from it. My post was questioning if you’d had a change of heart/mind i.e. something happened to make you think the car wasn’t ‘that’ good any more, and if something had happen what was it etc.
For future reference toys have been attached to string to allow swift recovery in the event that they are evicted from afore mentioned pram
Flasher hope that clears up the intention of the original post??…..

PhilShort,
You're dead right about the double cab's but there is a caveat.
A double cab is only classed as a commercial vehicle if it can carry a 1 tonne payload in the buck. This counts out a great many of the double cabs but the LandRover 110 pickup, Mitsubishi L200 4Life both count.
Personally I run a LandRover as a van and get all my VAT back plus a mere 500GBP personal benefit charge.
This 'loophole' is unlikely to be closed as it was the taxman that deliberatly opened it! When I bought my van 3 years ago double-cabs were still classed as cars and so customs+excise specifically changed the classification 2 years ago.
Little known fact - minibuses are commercial vehicles as well, a minibus is defined as 9 or more seats. A LandRover 110 County Station Wagon has 9 seats - therefore its a mini-bus - bingo: mucho improved tax situation....
And don't get me started on company motorcyles......

9 seats is the min in a 110 CSW (ie with cubby box in front and individual seats in the back instead of benches). My 110 CSW has 12 seats - good pub car when the wife's driving

Oh a similar and related issue - did anyone know what the emissions on a TVR are for company car tax purposes?
Anyone running a TVR as a company car???
Cheers,
Paul
Yes, I am and the emmisions for a Tuscan are 405g/km acording to TVR.
That makes it 35% benefit in kind but so is anything worth having as the top limit is 265g/km
The main impact is the list price and in this respect Tuscans win, certainly saved me some money compared to the Ferrari last year!

I never had a problem really, just couldn't understand why you didn't see the reasons behind my "may have to sell" story...
I guess I was just waiting for someone to say "But, you said...."
No worries mate you didn't upset me, sorry if I appeared to be biting off your head...
I'm glad I'm keeping the Tammy ( only joking lads) and I do love it. I will probably swap it for a Tuscan later in the year or another Tamora...

Yes, I had been looking at the 4Life myself. I think the Nissan Nivara may qualify, and probably the Toyota HiLux double cab. It is possible to get a new 4Life for about £15000 after the VAT refund, which is a lot of motor for the money. Come in handy for dropping Speed Six engines off at Blackpool as well.
I'd forgotten bikes, but you are dead right, bikes are pretty tax efficient company transport as well.

Flasher, fair do's. Glad no one has started the "But, you said...." sort of comments - hope that you manage to keep the Tamora.
Definitley keeping the car now.....
Signed all the forms and getting a Focus TDi as company hack
Now all I have to do is drive like a complete w**ker like all TDi drivers, and I'm in the TDi gang!!!
At least I get to keep the Tamora
Bollox to the taxman....
