sagaris light lens sticking
Discussion
Can anyone recommend a product to fix or glue Sagaris light lens cover front and back on with please. I was going to use sikka flex 221 but thought I might want to get them off again at some stage. Also do I just paint a black boarder round the inside to hide the fixing ? have searched but not very successfully. cheerz
You could consider the 3M double side high adhesive foam tape, used in attaching car body fixings. Trouble is it will still need a sealer on the edges to keep moisture out, just less of it. The tape is same /similar to the pads used to adhere Go-pro camera mounts to body panels , I cant recall the 3M product number unfortunately.
I would recommend painting the lenses on the outside and then lacquer over the top. Can’t tell the difference when it’s done but it stops that horrible de-lamination that happens. Silkaflex 221 is the right stuff but it’s a balance as you need to put enough on to ensure it seals. It’s a pain in the arse...
I've used the Sikaflex 221. As I noted in that other T50 thread regarding getting them off again :-
I've found a stanley knife to start a cut round the bottom and then insert strong fishing line and carefully saw it back and forth like cheese wire to work your way around up to the top works to get them out. Don't try any prising of the covers as they break.
When I had a front lens physically replaced (when I broke it trying to remove to seal it properly by not using the above technique) I got a bodyshop to do that as the lens needed to be shaped to fit. They used plasic paint on the inside to do the black surround and years later it is still fine - actually slightly neater than the factory finish was and it does leak like it did when it came out of the factory.
There is no doubt though that these lens covers are a complete faff if you do need to get them off and on and get a perfect seal and perfect finish around the edges.

I used to paint inside of lens, use black plain silicon to hold light in place, not a lot mind, and then seal the edges with sicaflex, makes it easier to remove at a later date if you need to , in fact I got so fed up with lights misting up or getting crap inside I copied Tony Martin`s RT sag and screwed them on by using rivnuts in the fibreglass and some black countersunk screws, then a fne bead of sicaklex to tidy the edge up, worked much better.

got any pictures clive oh and long time no bump into you ok.
I now have Clive’s car, below is a photo, it’s difficult to get a clear picture in the garage because of the light. The countersunk screws are not very obvious or obtrusive. Clive also told me that the screws made fitting and adjusting the lense alignment with the body easier. Gassing Station | Tamora, T350 & Sagaris | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
