Hi there,

I'm thinking of moving up to a TVR Tamora (currently have a Chimaera), but wondered if a Tamora has enough ground clearance to get over speed bumps OK? (I'm surrounded by speed bumps where I live).

depends how big the speed bumps are!. there are some near me which I sometimes need to navigate which I do with extreme caution. Parking near curbs is also worthy of attention. I think the front lip is about 3.5" off the ground. I can pop out and measure it if you want?

My front splitter had 100mm of clearance, most of the time it was fine, just occasionally there was a little scrape, nothing to worry about!

When I first got my Tamora it had just 7cm of clearance under the front splitter which meant any bumps had to be taken very slowly. A visit to Centre Gravity for a full geo and corner weight setup sorted that out and it's spot on now.

With adjustable height dampers ( adjustable bases), eg nitrons, you can make it any height you want within reason . Obviously,reset your geometry at your desired ride height.
Changing to Sagaris spec springs will also reduce suspension movement for a given load by more than 55%.

While the size / dimensions of speed humps are regulated they routinely fall outside of the maximum sizes allowed. There are plenty round me that the Touran has to crawl over.

Assuming factory set up on the suspension, I doubt there will be much difference between a Chimp and a Tam.

A possibly unrequired reminder. The 'small' speed humps aren't designed for cars to straddle, they are designed for ambulences and fire engines to straddle unhindered. Cars should be one wheel up, one wheel down - which mitigates the low nature of TVRs.

Would the question of 16 and or 18 rims matter in this...(I do not know what tyres the 16" run).

The 16's run 50 profile 225 (all round) so the radius of the wheels aren't too different. Higher profile will help 'comfort' though.

I found with the Chimaera, I generally hit the tail pipes. With the Tamora, if the front gets over the rest will.

But speed bumps are a pain and need to be taken really slowly.

I certainly have more speed bump clearance on spiders vs the 16" rl7s that I previously had on the cerbera.

Stiffer springs also help prevent it bounce over bumps and catch the exhausts vs the softer setup of my first cerb too.

I never knew that - learn something new every day! smile (Although I manage to straddle those ok with my splitter-less Chimaera!)
