We have a pair of brick 'chocks' on the side of our drive especially for visiting TVRs as it is on a slight incline. Didn't use them on my friends Renault Scenic which thankfully stopped before reaching the 6ft wall opposite.

Real sorry to hear this flasher.

I guess the handbrake is crap on my cerb too. I don't
know though because I always leave it in gear.

Lucky your drive isn't too steep, hope you get it sorted soon.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car Andy. Glad to hear that it's not too bad. Hope that everything gets fixed to your satisfaction. Ann warned me about not rely on the handbrake in the Tasmin. Your story has just reinforced that. Can't wait until I pick the Tasmin up on Friday....

Fcuk me, read to here and my heart sunk to my stomach as i thought it had been nicked for a split second.

Wonder if it is worth having a quick confessional here then?

Forgive me PetrolTed for I have sinned:

1) I reversed my TVR into a wall and marked the black rubbing strip
2) Opened the door to fast and put a stonking big red mark on a silver merc
3) Keep scratching the front on low kerbs in parking spaces
4) Left the car on a hill, not in gear and without the handbrake on for 15 minutes until I realised that I left my mobile phone and stereo in the car - fortunately the car had only moved a foot or two...

And thats just on the TVR. Best not mention what I have done in the Citroen (which is the one that I dont care about cos its worth £600)!

Cheers,

Paul

it's perfectly acceptable to abuse Citroens....in fact it should be compulsory, mind you at £600 you must have a top of the range one

Thanks mate! Come Friday, if it lasts that long, it will disappear to a place I dont want to know! I will no longer own that piece of - was going to say metal, but its mainly plastic! Chuffed that I got £600 for it...

Its been thrashed within an inch of its life an boy does it feel it now! And yes, it is / was top of the range (other than the Volcane which is just rough) at the time.... ooooo plush seats, those French know how to spec a car up you know....

Cheers,

Paul

After the cars been into the garage let us know their comments on the hand brake. It will be interesting to hear where, and if, there is a problem. Terry

Happened to my Chim once. Forgot to leave it in gear, and it slipped down the drive and hit the house. Knocked half a brick out of the garage, barely a mark on the Chim. They can be pretty tough these plastic cars!

Still, its unbelievable that after all this time TVR's are still blighted with this problem.

Interesting story. Especially as about 2 weeks ago I came back to my car having parked it off Leatherhead high-street to find a pallette in front of the rear wheels. Confused, I turned to see a chap come out of the shop it was parked in front of to say that they just stopped it about 2 inches short of hitting the car in front of me....

Needless to say the handbrake was up, and obviously being parked on a hill, I made sure it was stationary as I got out of the car, and remained so as I waited for my g/f to get out and then armed the alarm!

Looks like they all do that sir...

Yep TVR handbrakes are a bit dodgy - just ask Nick Whale Sportscars what happened to thier Noble on a track day - yep a TVR handbrake failed and rolled into said Noble - oooops.

I don't think handbrakes are 'failing' as such.

If they are get it adjusted.

But,a combination of, disks have got very hot, handbrake on holds it, and parked on a slope.

Some advice from a dealer(I think maybe ferrari) any car with disk brakes, put in on at full notch, and maybe leave it in gear as well - When parked on a slope.

One tip, press on the brake pedal, when applying the handbrake, this gives it that extra notch.
(Need to do reverse to get it brake off)

Just in case anyone isn't sure, that was a because using the handbrake on VERY hot disks will warp or even crack them. How hot? Last track day I was at the disks were smoking nicely thankyou.

Flash, that's actually really funny.

I'm picturing you in one of Ms Buckets finer floral frocks, sipping darjeeling and twitching those cornish lace curtains, going through your phone book and extoling the virtues of said go-cart to your piers...
when, and cue 1980's naff sitcom themes, etc etc.

Sorry though, eh!!

Got the same with my Chimaera last year. BUT A GOOD POINT FOR TVRs IS THEY ARE GLASS FIBER BODIED. That means you ONLY HAVE SMALL SCRATCHES when this happens and no bump in your body like other metal bodied cars. My wooden garage doors were totaly destroyed and my chimaera has only minor scratches I could easely cure with some super polish from 3M.
